Chapter 41
“Do you really have to ask me that?” Jeremy flew into a rage, each word cutting through the phone. “Do you want the whole world to see you being so shamelessly lovey–dovey with Elliot, Joanna?”
The whole world, he said.
Joanna finally understood why Jeremy was furious. She had noticed the cameras pointing their way earlier, but she hadn’t paid any attention to them.
Joanna giggled. “Why does it bother you so much, Mr. Hansen? All you have to do is sign the divorce agreement, and everything I do will not affect you.”
Besides, only the Hansens and the people around them knew about their relationship.
Thompson!” The veins on Jeremy’s forehead popped. “I decide whether we
or not. As long as you’re still my wife, you have the duty to remain loyal to me.
“Are you alright in the head, Mr. Hansen?” Joanna was done going along with him.
“I’m
“I’m not, and it’s your fault.” Surprisingly, Jeremy didn’t retort to her this time. “We’ll divorce only if you abort the baby, Joanna.”
And with that, he hung up.
Joanna was left utterly speechless. Jeremy’s mind was truly slipping as days went by. If he was so sure that she was pregnant with someone else’s baby, he should’ve just severed his ties with her.
Or perhaps, Jeremy could’ve been holding a grudge on Nadine’s behalf. If Nadine couldn’t have children, then Joanna didn’t have the right to get pregnant either.
The wavy Joanna saw it, that would be the more plausible reason. She took a deep breath and put her phone away. Just as she was about to return to the event venue, three guys headed toward her and stood in her way.
Out of the three people, Joanna had seen two of them.
“I’m here for the five thousand dollars, Joanna You gave it to me, so how could you take it back?” Joy stood in the middle, and her boyfriend stood to her left. The man on her right was a stranger to Joanna.
“You’re loaded, Ms. Thompson,” Nathan said. “Surely, five thousand dollars is nothing to someone like you. Wouldn’t you agree?”
He stared at Joanna while he brandished the knife in his hand. It was as if he wanted to make sure that Joanna saw it. His grin was both sinister and repulsive.
“You gave us the five thousand dollars as our wedding gift. You can’t possibly take it back,”

he added.
“That’s right, Joanna. Just give me the money. Joy nodded and went along with her boyfriend. “I swear that you’ll never see me again after this.”
Joanna’s gaze swept over the three people standing in front of her, and she couldn’t help but sneer. “What if I refused to give you the money?”
“Well…” The grin on Nathan’s face grew more off–putting. He brandished the knife in his hand again and said, “My little friend here can be quite nasty. If it accidentally leaves a mark on your pretty face, you’ll be suffering for nothing.”
Joanna chuckled coldly. She noticed Elliot, who was approaching her from behind Joy and her gang. Without another word, she walked toward them.
“Fuck this. Give us the money, you bitch!” Nathan immediately yelled frantically seeing that Joanna was actually moving closer.
“Dream on!” Joanna responded coldly.
You asked for it, bitch!” Nathan bellowed. In a fit of panic, he gripped his knife and lunged toward Joanna’s abdomen.
