Chapter 44
Nadine stared at Jeremy for a while and ran the question in her head over and over. Finally, she mustered the courage to ask, “Joanna told me she wants a divorce and has already signed the papers. Do you think she did it because of Elliot?”
Naturally, Nadine wasn’t interested in the reason behind Joanna’s actions. What she wanted to know was whether Jeremy was going to divorce Joanna. And if so, when would he do it?
Nadine had dreamed of becoming Jeremy’s wife for over five years now. It was torturous for her to wait for even a second longer.
“I don’t want you to question me about my marriage with Joanna. Just focus on getting ready for your concert,” Jeremy replied nonchalantly, eyes still shut.
Nadine looked at him, and the disappointment that flashed in her eyes was unmistakable. It quickly turned into rage, hatred, and malice.
“Okay,” she said, her voice still tender and submissive. “I will make sure I’m ready for it. I won’t let you down.”
When Joanna returned to Maplewood Residences, Wendy called. The latter didn’t have time to watch Eterna Group’s product launch live stream.
Once the event was over, someone took pictures of Elliot and Joanna’s intimate interactions and uploaded them on their social media. It quickly became one of the trending topics.
When Joanna found out about it, she wanted to get someone to take trending topics down. However, before she could act, they were gone on their own.
Not only was the topic gone, but pictures, videos, and all related keywords about her intimate interactions with Elliot disappeared from the internet without a trace.
It had only trended on the internet for no more than ten minutes. However, someone still managed to take a screenshot of it and send it to Wendy.
No mothers–in–law would be happy to see their daughters–in–law acting that intimately with another man. And Wendy, a tough and aggressive lady, was especially incensed.
She immediately sent someone to investigate Joanna’s relationship with Elliot. She didn’t know anything before the investigation, but she was furious when she learned the truth.
Elliot was Joanna’s friend from high school, and he was six years her senior. Both of them knew each other when they were kids. Joanna had even introduced Eterna Group’s products to Wendy.

However, that wasn’t the most important thing The capper came when Wendy learned that Joanna stayed in Elliot’s apartment after she moved out of Clementson Bay Villa. Joanna was married and pregnant. How could she stay in another man’s place? How was Wendy supposed to put up with this?
Joanna was Wendy’s daughter–in–law. If word got out about it, disaster would follow. The Hansens and Jeremy would become the laughingstock of the city.
“Where are you now, Joanna? I’m sending someone to bring you home now.” Wendy’s voice was thick with displeasure and authority, leaving no room for argument.
Joanna could guess that Wendy must’ve seen the trending topics as well.
“I’m at my friend’s place, Wendy,” Joanna replied without any hesitation.
“By friend, do you mean Elliot from Eterna Group?”
Wendy’s voice grew even more irritated. Without waiting for an answer, she continued, ” You might be going through a divorce with Jeremy, but it hasn’t been finalized.
“You’re still a married woman, and you’re my daughter–in–law. How could you stay in another man’s home? Have you considered Jeremy’s feelings or the Hansen family’s reputation, Joanna?”
“The only thing left to do is for Jeremy to sign the divorce agreement, Wendy,” Joanna replied. “After that, I won’t have any connections to him whatsoever.”
“You need to know when to stop creating trouble, Joanna.”
