Chapter 45
“You need to know when to stop creating trouble, Joanna.” It was obvious that Wendy was controlling her anger at the other end of the phone.
“Back then, I was against letting you and Jeremy get married when Anthea proposed it. However, I eventually relented upon seeing that you’re understanding, elegant, and
mature.
“But no one could’ve guessed just how incompetent you’d turn out to be. You had three years, yet you still failed to win Jeremy’s heart. To this day, he’s still hung up over that Slinger woman. Tell me, whose fault is that?”
Wendy paused momentarily before she continued. “The blame lies in your incompetence, Joanna.”
“You’re right, Wendy. I am incompetent. So, the best course of action is to get Jeremy to sign the divorce agreement as soon as possible,” Joanna replied nonchalantly.
“Why, you!” Wendy was livid by her response. Joanna had never dared to speak to her like this before. Still, she was willing to let it slide for the sake of the twins.
Wendy shoved her anger deep inside her and said patiently, “It doesn’t matter if Jeremy only had eyes for that Slinger woman, Joanna. Sean and I are on your side.
“More importantly, you’re carrying our grandchildren. That Slinger woman will never be able to marry into the Hansen family for the rest of her life.”
“I understand what you and Sean are thinking, Wendy. However, I am going through with the divorce.” Joanna’s tone was calm and indifferent; she was very adamant about the
divorce.
Wendy’s voice immediately turned icy. “So now you won’t even listen to me anymore, Joanna.”
“Even if Jeremy and I are divorced, you and Sean will still be my kids‘ grandparents,” Joanna replied.
Wendy suppressed her anger again and said, “I don’t care about what you think. The point is, you can’t stay in another man’s place for as long as you’re still my daughter–in–law.
“I want you to pack your things this instant. I’m going to send someone to pick you up. Otherwise, I will have to resort to other methods, and I believe you know what I’m capable of.”
Needless to say, Joanna knew what dirty tricks Wendy was capable of pulling.
There was no need to talk about other tricks, either. Wendy was one of Eterna Group’s earliest customers. Most of the socialites in Clementson City chose their products because

If Wendy, a lady of the most prestigious family in the city, started maliciously targeting Eterna Group, then her followers would follow suit. They would also stop using the company’s products.
These socialites spent an average of two million dollars annually on Eterna Group’s products. Once they turned their backs on the company, it would spell disaster for Elliot.
“Alright. I’ll do as you said.”
Naturally, Elliot was against the idea when he learned that Joanna wanted to move back to the Hansen residence. However, Joanna told him about what was at stake.
Elliot frowned in response. He couldn’t think of any way to counter Wendy’s tactics. After all, he was aware that Wendy was fully capable of pulling off what Joanna told him.
It wasn’t easy for Eterna Group to grow to where it was today. For the past five years, Joanna had poured her heart and soul into it.
“Nadine will just get more irritated if you move back to the Hansen residence. She’ll think of various ways to set you up,” Elliot warned.
Joanna smiled. “Do you think I’m scared of her?”
“It’s true. You don’t have to be scared of her, but I’m just worried that she would poison Jeremy’s mind and make your life hard.” Elliot frowned and said.
Aside from Joanna, no one knew that Elliot was actually an illegitimate son of the richest family in Tanaria–the Becker family. Over five years ago, he made a huge fortune on Shinestone Street, and he had a bright future ahead of him.
However, Elliot remained an illegitimate son of the head of the Becker family. So, the other members of his family deliberately set him up and almost sent him to prison.
Joanna was the one who spent over 300 million Aristorian dollars to save him and win him back his freedom. From that moment on, he was fiercely loyal to Joanna, and he had been working with her ever since.
