Chapter S
It had been eight years since I last visited
hometown. I had cut all the
connections from my family and friends before leaving the country, all for David. Now that I thought about it, I felt it was a very foolish move. I did everything because I was too stubborn back then and wanted everything to be done according to me. After completing my graduation, I took control of my family business. My father’s company was already at the top of the business world in the country. But, I wanted to expand it overseas as well. David contacted me through his assistant. He thought I was merely an employee, working in Cooper’s group. He asked me to convince my company to collaborate with him. At that time. I liked his offer and tried
to convince my father to partner with David’s company. But, my father refused me. He gave me the reason “The lad is not trustworthy. Too ambitious and greedy‘.

I got mad at my father. Since he didn’t approve my decisions for his company, I left everything and fled to New York. David. offered me job in his company and I gladly took it before we ended up as a couple. In the meantime, I never contacted my family. One of my friends, Faye, informed me that after I left, my younger brother took over the control of Coopers group and had been handling it quite well. They often asked Faye about my well beings. But, she always told them that she didn’t know about my whereabouts.
Now that I was returning my hometown, I didn’t know how to face my family. I had only informed my friend, Faye, about my arrival and she insisted on picking me up from the airport. I planned to stay in my country for the next few days before I think about joining any company. With my skills, I was confident I could get any desirable job if I didn’t consider Marcus‘ s offer.
I was looking for Faye in the crowd when I heard a familiar male voice, calling out my

name.
“Rosaline! Turn around…”
I turned sideways only to look at my younger brother, Luke, shouting his lungs out in excitement. As far as I remembered, I had always seen him in shorts and pajamas. Now seeing him in a well tailored suit, looking like a big man, made me realize how much I had missed in my life.
He immediately walked up to me and pulled me in an embrace, saying hoarsely,
“Rosaline, I have missed you a lot.”
Tears were formed in my eyes as I said, “I’m sorry, Luke. I hurt you and our parents.”
“It’s okay,” he said while wiping the corner of his eyes, “Now that you are back, the past can be forgotten.”
Just then reporters began circulating around us. They began questioning Luke about our relationship. Luke‘ s
bodyguards immediately made ways for us.

Luke held my hands tightly before saying in a concerned voice, “Rosaline, come let’s go before the crowd becomes too dense.”
I hesitated for a moment. Luke seemed to guess my concern and immediately added,
“Mom and Dad are eagerly waiting for their daughter. They have forgotten everything and have already forgiven you. Don’t let them wait too much, Rosaline.”
I nodded my head with a pair of tearful eyes. I had no idea that my brother had grown mature and sensible. I followed him to his car while his guards covered us from the media. On our way home, he briefly introduced me to the events that occurred. after my departure.
He revealed a shocking truth. Faye and Luke had been dating for eight years. She had been informing Luke about my well beings. He came to know about my arrival through her.
“Don’t tell her that I told you about my affair with her and that she had been

sharing your news with me or else she will be mad at me.” he added in the end.
“I promise,” I replied and took a sigh of relief that I hadn’t told Faye about my entanglement with David. I had only told her that I worked in his company or else. my brother would have gone mad after knowing what he did to me. He would already have started taking revenge from him.
When I arrived home the familiar scents and sounds enveloped me like a warm hug. Our mother, Mrs. Cooper, stood in the dining hall, a rare sight in her apron.
“Rosaline, my child,” she called me with a trembling voice before pulling me in a warm hug, “You’re too thin. Eat more and regain your strength.”
I smiled while feeling a sense of belonging as I said, “I’ve missed your cooking,
Mother.”
As we sat down to feast, Luke raised his
