Chapter 11
Five years passed in the blink of an eye.
A plane soared across the blue skies, leaving behind a contrail.

Dylan marched swiftly across the airport. Kieran, pushing the luggages, struggled to keep up with his boss but without a word of complaint.
Aside from Kieran, Kaitlyn was also struggling to catch up with Dylan.
“Dylan, wait for me!” Her worried voice echoed through the airport hall, but Dylan showed no signs of slowing down. If anything, he quickened his pace.
His distant behavior was clear to Kaitlyn, but she held on stubbornly and refused to let go of the perfect fiance.
They were so close to holding a wedding five years ago, after which she would become his legal spouse.
Yet, she remained a fiancee over these years–running behind him pathetically, hoping he’d stop and wait for her for once.
But most of the time, she was the one doing the chasing.
Over the years, Schneider Group had gained more influence in Havenport. In contrast, Lynch Group’s influence waned.
Their marriage arrangement might be the Lynch family’s last hope at revival with Schneider Group’s help.
That was the reason the Lynch family never considered calling off the engagement despite being subjected to Dylan’s awful treatment.
Kaitlyn’s voice did not attract too much attention in the bustling airport, except that of a female passenger who had just alighted from her flight.
Julia paused for a moment and turned to the source of the voice, but she couldn’t see Kaitlyn, whose figure was blocked from her view.
While dragging her suitcase along, Julia felt surreal when she stared at the familiar sky through the glass windows.
In five years, she had undergone a massive transformation. Once, she had nothing to her name, but she was now a successful and confident woman.
It was all thanks to Dylan and his family’s generosity. Without the 1.5 million dollars they offered her, she might have had a tougher time abroad.
Thanks to their sponsorship, she resumed studying–something she had had to give up because of poverty–and even landed a pretty decent job.
She thought of Dylan and sank into a short silence.
She had never imagined herself back home when she left to study abroad.
When she finally decided to come home, she wondered if she’d ever run into her old acquaintances.
In the five years abroad, she constantly had dreams about the day she saved Dylan.
She had just gotten off work at her part–time job past midnight. On her way home, she spotted a man in a pool of blood.
Her first thought was a plot from the novels she read to destress–could this be a hit attempt?
She tried to leave to stay out of trouble, but Dylan reached out to grab her pant sleeve. Mustering all his energy, he said to her, “Save me. I’ll reward you…”
He fainted mid–sentence.
She was always cash–strapped back then, but she had no idea Dylan was the only heir of Schneider Group in Havenport.
In hindsight, she realized she might have known his background had she spent more time following the news. If so, things wouldn’t have gotten this complicated between her and Dylan.
Alas, it was too late.
Clueless, she sent him to the hospital, anticipating his reward after seeing how well–dressed he was. She even paid for his hospital bills.
Worried he’d sneak away after regaining consciousness, she even took a day off to stay by his side.
To her disappointment, after a day of staying by his side, she was told that he had lost his memories.
