Chapter 13
“Why are you always so cruel to me?” Kaitlyn yelled, tears shimmering in her eyes.
She couldn’t make sense of it. “You agreed to marry me!”
Dylan gave her hope by promising to marry her.
Five years ago, Kaitlyn happily put on her wedding gown, and her father led her down the aisle to Dylan.
She had once thought it would be the happiest and most memorable moment of her life. Yet Dylan’s careless behavior had ruined everything.
He had called off the marriage in front of their wedding guests when the officiant smiled and asked him, “Will you take Kaitlyn Lynch as your wife?”
What followed was an uncomfortably long silence. Kaitlyn had to urge him a few times before he gathered himself.
He looked at her with sheer determination. Then, he made the shocking declaration. “No. I will not take her as my wife.”
Dylan tossed out the ring he had clutched tightly, removed the boutonniere from his lapel, and left the venue without hesitation.
Since then, the Lynch family became the butt of a joke in their social circles. People laughed at them for being calculative, only to lose it all.
The Lynch family did not take this humiliation lying down. Alas, they were always defeated in subsequent clashes against the Schneider family. Finally, they backed down and revisited the marriage arrangement again when they were close to being excluded from high society. They framed it diplomatically, claiming that they were not thoughtful enough and that they understood Dylan wasn’t ready for marriage.
Since the Lynch family decided to keep the marriage arrangement, the ball was in Dylan’s court now.
He gave Kaitlyn the cold shoulder the same way he had treated Julia. He said nothing when Kaitlyn was humiliated, just like his inaction when Julia had been harassed, all because he wanted to give Kaitlyn a taste of her own medicine.
Kaitlyn endured the pain out of her love for Dylan and the sake of her family.
Despite Dylan’s misgivings, he had never laid a finger on her. This marked his first time hitting her, and worse, he did it in public.
Kaitlyn couldn’t stand it anymore. As tears fell down her cheeks, she turned around and dashed away.
Once the main character was gone, the show came to an end. The crowd dispersed, leaving behind a frightened Kieran who wondered if he should stay or go. Dylan finally stirred. He stared at Kieran, who froze in shock, and said, “Cancel my schedule for today.”
He left the scene right after.
When Kieran pulled himself together, Dylan was nowhere to be seen.
Soon after, Tessa called her son. “What’s going on? I heard you

She held back in asking the question, as she had other ways to get her updates.
A brief pause later, she asked, “I heard you slapped Kaitlyn in public today.”

He grunted nonchalantly as a reply.
Tessa let out a sigh. “What’s going through your mind? If you don’t like her, just let her go. Don’t the cold shoulder.”
Dylan did not explain his motivation. He replied coldly, “I have my plans.”
He would not allow Kaitlyn to walk away freely, at least before Julia came back to him.
He had resolved to wait for Julia, no matter how long it’d take.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for Julia to come to him.
