Chapter 14
Julla bumped into Dylan a week after her return to Havenport.
She had just settled into her new job as a senior designer when her boss handed her an agreement.
“Our client wanted you to work on this deal. Jules, this is huge! If you seal the deal, our branch will have established itself in Havenport. You need to nail it!”
Julia stared at the papers in her arms in surprise. Looking doubtful, she questioned, “Did they ask for me specifically?”
A frown lingered on her face. Something about this felt off.
Although she hailed from Havenport, she wasn’t anyone special–just another working–class citizen making ends meet.
Sure, she had connections with the Schneider family through Dylan. Even then, no one would take her seriously.
After that, she spent two years studying architecture in Elandria and another three years working her way up from a junior to senior designer.
She made a name for herself, but definitely not to the point where clients would bring up her name and ask to work with her.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to her. She looked at the design director, Ellen Lansing.
“If you want me to negotiate the deal, I should at least know a thing or two about the client, isn’t that right?”
In Ellen’s silence, Julia continued, “May I know who the client is?”
With a wide smile, Ellen proudly revealed, “It’s Schneider Group.”
Julia fell silent. The answer did not surprise her, but she couldn’t think of a response.
Ellen seemed oblivious to Julia’s unusual silence. After taking a sip of water, she started offering empty promises, “Jules, had you told me you had connections in Schneider Group, I could even offer you the directorship! You don’t have to stay a senior designer!”
Julia only shook her head without a hint of joy. Staring at her feet in silence, she finally replied, “I don’t have any connections working at Schneider Group. Even if I am well–connected, I wanted to be appointed director solely because of my talent.”
Ellen was taken aback by Julia’s answer.
She studied Julia closely before bursting into laughter. “Alright, now. It doesn’t matter if you know anyone at Schneider Group or not. After all, I brought you back to Havenport, which means I am confident in your ability.
“If you’re thinking of winning the directorship solely based on your talent, I’m afraid you have to wait for quite a bit.” Ellen flashed a sarcastic smile. “I’m still young. I don’t think WG Design plans to appoint two directors and have us fight against each other.”
Julia returned a smile. “I’ll work hard to beat you one day.”
In the end, Julia accepted the task of negotiating the deal.
WG Design had just set up their office in Havenport and badly needed an opportunity to make a name for themselves, so working with Schneider Group was their best bet.
They would not turn down such a golden opportunity.
Even though Julia had fully prepared herself for the meeting, she couldn’t help but do a double–take at Dylan.
He had changed a lot over the five years–he exuded a commanding air and carried himself with aloof poise.
Right after stepping into the meeting room, he fixed his eyes on Julia, who stood before herteam.
Although he said nothing, his eyes overflowed with love and pain.
Julia had no idea about the reason behind his emotions, but she did not care. Since everyone had arrived, she began presenting her proposal.
Time ticked away. When she wrapped up her presentation, the representatives of Schneider Group looked satisfied with the proposal.
Only Dylan remained spellbound, watching as Julia shone brightly when she excitedly introduced her ideas.
