Chapter 18
Julia originally thought that after what happened that day, she wouldn’t see Dylan again for a long time.
But only two days later, she saw him standing nearby her doorstep again.
After suppressing the annoyance in her heart, she lowered her head and sent a quick message. Then, she took a few steps in his direction but still kept some distance between them and asked coldly, “Why are you here?”
He seemed ignorant of her annoyance. His expression was humble, like that of someone with unrequited love, desperate to prove his sincerity to the woman he loved.
“Jules…”
His voice was a little hoarse, and his eyes were scarily bloodshot. He looked exhausted, yet there was not a hint of fatigue in his gaze, only a joyful eagerness to please.
Unfortunately, she was not having it.
“Mr. Schneider, I thi

Dylan tried to speak, to voice out the suppressed grief and frustration within him. However, after a long pause, all he did was force out a smile.

He was desperate to get closer to her, but she skillfully maintained her distance with subtle movements.
“Just say what you came to say. I don’t have the energy to play your childish games. If you really want to apologize for what happened back then, then- Julia had initially intended to tell him to stay away from her and disappear from
her life entirely. However, Dylan seemed to have sensed her intent and quickly cut
her off.

As he spoke, he seemed afraid she might say something he didn’t want to hear.
Julia stood there, watching his figure gradually disappear into the distance in sile

respond, he abruptly turned and left.
As soon as the man reached her, he held her shoulders and carefully looked her over from head to toe, checking for any signs of injuries. Miles finally breathed a sigh of relief only after confirming she was unharmed.
“He’s gone?”
They both knew who that “he” was referring to.
Julia nodded, then opened the door. Before stepping inside, she turned back to look at Miles. “Would you like to come in for “Gladly.”
Some tea?”
The water in the kettle was boiling, bubbling gently. Already familiar with her home, Miles took off his shoes and followed her inside. Sunlight streamed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, casting warm light across the living room and onto both of them.
He glanced around, then finally let his gaze rest on her.
“Are you settling in well here?” he asked.
Julia nodded and smiled at him. “I like it here very much. Thank you.”
Miles didn’t reply but kept his eyes fixed on her. After a long pause, she heard him speak.
“I’m really glad I was the first person you thought of in a moment like this.”
Compared to their earlier polite conversation, this sentence carried a lot more suggestive undertone.
place wasn’t large, but it felt cozy.
Julia knew how Miles felt about her. But for now, she couldn’t respond in kind. At least at this moment, she felt more gratitude than anything else for him.
