Chapter 9
Tessa wouldn’t stop complaining, but Dylan seemed oblivious to it all, trapped in his own world.
“Dylan, I’m speaking to you. Are you listening?”
She waved a hand in front of Dylan when she realized he was spacing out, but he did not react at all. He wouldn’t stop muttering, “jedes pars”
Tessa knitted her brows unhappily. Contempt was written all over her face.
Julia was a poor woman who had stumbled upon the rich Schneider family and entered high society only because Dylan lost his memory three years ago, sl, en luxury outfits could not take away her shabbiness.
Julia and Dylan were destined to live differently. Tessa felt relieved to leam that Julia had the self–awareness to let go of him.
At the thought, she checked out the messy living room and counted the time. Something struck her.
She arched a brow and turned to her son with a satisfied expression.
“Did Julia leave? Glad she knows her place. Since she’s gone, I’ll discuss your wedding plans with the Lynch family later,”
Her remark seemingly triggered him, for his expression crumpled. “T–This is impossible! She’ll never leave me, not when…”
Not when Julia clearly loved him so dearly,
Tessa merely scoffed at his silly determination. “Nothing is impossible. She accepted my 500 thousand dollar offer without thinking twice.”
Dylan latched onto the mention of the 500 thousand dollars. He snapped up to look at his mom in disbelief.
“What did you say? 500 thousand dollars?”
Tessa caught herself and felt remorseful for slipping up, but she quickly regained her composure,
She had kept the offer a secret from Dylan because she worried he’d be reluctant to part ways with Julia. Now that julia had left, there was nothing he could do to change the reality. The truth might even be a good opportunity to reveal Julia’s true colors.
In the end, she was just a gold digger. Dylan probably wouldn’t have any lingering feelings for that woman when he leamed that she had only stayed for the money.
Hence, Tessa told Dylan the truth without a care.
“I met her a week ago and offered her 500 thousand dollars so she’d leave you. I thought she would argue with me, either for a higher compensation or fighting to stay so she could get more from you.
“I was surprised when she accepted my check without hesitation and agreed to leave within a week I counted the days–it was about time she left.”
The answer hit him like a truck, and he couldn’t hold back the tears in his eyes, Pain shot through his body. His chest rose and fell heavily.
Clenching his jaw, he still refused to believe in Tessa’s words. He glared at her, begging for a final confirmation,
“You forced her to leave, but she was unwilling to leave me. Is that right?”
Tessa’s answer let him down. She shook her head nonchalantly, “Why would I lie to you? Julia willingly took the money and left.
“She’s just a gold digger. Don’t waste your time on her. You’re getting married to Kaitlyn soon. You should spend more time on her.*
He noticed his phone and grabbed it like it was the last hope. He searched for Julia’s contact, which he had ignored for some time, and dialed it.
After a long wait, he was disappointed when he heard the automated message from the other end. He tried calling again, but this time, he couldn’t get through He stared at the call in disbelief. Did Julia block him?
He didn’t notice Tessa leaving the villa. He stubbornly perched in the living room and stared at the entrance.
In a delusional moment, he saw Julia walking through the door like before while chattering about her life.
“Dylan, there’s this insane customer at my part–time job today…”
He reached out to grab her, but he was grasping at air. Only then did he realize that everything was an illusion
