Chapter 6
Nicholas rushed over, immediately pulling Gwendoline into his arms. His eyes blazed with fury as he turned to me.”
“Apologize. Now!”
I straightened, my voice steady and cold. “I didn’t push her.“>>
Gwendoline clutched her stomach, sucking in a sharp breath, but even through her supposed pain, she managed to throw Nicholas a teary, pitiful look.
“Nico… my stomach hurts…”>
His anger melted into concern in an instant. He held her tighter, murmuring soothing words, his face full of worry.”
Then he turned back to me, his expression hardening like stone. “Apologize, Rose. If you think you can get away with this, you’re so wrong.”
I tilted my head, unfazed. “Oh? And what exactly are you going to do?“>
Nicholas‘ jaw tightened, his hands trembling with rage. Without another word, he yanked out his phone and started typing furiously.
A second later, my own phone buzzed.§
I glanced at the screen–and my stomach dropped.
He had sent those so–called “intimate photos” to industry contacts. The clients‘ faces were blurred, but mine? Mine was crystal clear.
Nicholas let out a cruei laugh. “Still feeling stubborn? Let’s see how long you last in this business.”
I tightened my grip on my phone, a cold, sinking feeling spreading through me. I knew exactly what he was doing. This wasn’t just about revenge–he wanted to destroy any chance I had of moving forward.}
Gwendoline smirked, her voice dripping with mockery. “Rose, you’re done for. Completely ruined. From now on, even a stray dog has more dignity than you.”
I shot them both a cold glance and turned to leave.}
“Not so fast.” Nicholas‘ voice was sharp, edged with something dark. “Don’t think you’re walking away from this, Rose.“>
I slowly turned back, meeting his glare head–on.
“I’m going to make sure you regret ever betraying me,” he continued.
Betray him?
The sheer audacity almost made me laugh. He was the one who cheated, he was the one who threw everything away–yet somehow, I was the villain in his story.
I let out a quiet chuckle, then threw his own words right back at him. “Nicholas, don’t think this is over. You’ll learn soon enough what happens when you mess with me.“@
His jaw tightened, his expression twisting with fury. Without warning, he grabbed my wrist and yanked me back inside.
“I knew you were planning something! But guess what? I’m not giving you the chance to ruin this for me. Tomorrow, I’ll be standing at the top and you? You’ll spend the rest of your life regretting it.”
With that, he shoved me into the guest bedroom and locked the door behind me.
From the master bedroom next door, I could hear muffled laughter. Then the bed creaked. They weren’t even trying to be quiet.§
I exhaled slowly, my fingers curling into fists. If Nicholas wanted me to watch his big moment, I’d make damn sure he had front–row seats to his downfall.

The morning of the company’s IPO arrived.
Nicholas stood in the stock exchange lobby, sharp suit, perfect hair, flashing that smug, camera–ready smile of a man who thought he had already won.
Gwendoline clung to his arm, draped in an elegant designer gown, her smile radiant and sweet.
Under the flashing lights of the cameras, they looked every bit the perfect power couple.
“Mr. Brakefield, congratulations!”
Reporters swarmed around them, shoving microphones dangerously close to his face. “Today marks your company’s debut on the stock market–any words for the public?“> Nicholas offered a practiced, confident smile, his tone smooth and composed.
“This is a historic moment for our company. I want to thank our shareholders, employees and partners for their support. We’re committed to pushing forward and reaching even greater heights in the future!“D
Gwendoline chimed in with a delicate, melodic voice.
“Yes, Nico has poured his heart and soul into making this happen. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the company will thrive like never before.”}
The cameras clicked furiously, capturing what was meant to be his crowning moment.”
Amidst the celebration, whispers spread. Some reporters eyed the two of them with curiosity. The speculation didn’t go unnoticed.
