My heart raced, my thoughts scattering like leaves in the wind. Fedrick’s arm instinctively shot out, trying to shield me. His voice was calm but strained as he shouted, “Hold on!”
Pain seared through my side as the car came to a grinding halt, upside down. The air was heavy with the scent of blood and gasoline. My vision blurred, but I could still see Fedrick struggling to move, his breaths ragged

I nodded, tears blurring my vision. The road was deserted. Help wasn’t coming. The thought of dying here, trapped and helpless, tightened around my chest like a vise.

“Have we met before?” The question tumbled from my lips before I could stop it
