Brynn muttered under his breath as though trying to console his own heart. “She only did it to provoke me, forged it just out of spite.” “She’s actually still waiting for me to apologize.“%
He locked his phone with a soft click, his voice steady with false conviction.
“Natalie has always been softhearted. If I’m sincere enough, she’ll forgive me. I know she will.”
Inside the old family mansion, Odessa nearly dropped her teacup when she heard what he said.”
“What did you just say? You’re divorcing Sylvie today?“%
Brynn stood across from her eyes dark, tone firm and cold.
“Right now. The sooner, the better.”
Odessa was stunned for a beat before her face sank with fury.
“Have you lost your mind? Did you forget what the master said? Before thirty, you must marry Sylvie; otherwise, that cold energy in your body will seep into your bones.”
“Enough”
Brynn snapped his eyes like ice shards.
Tve followed that fortune–teller’s nonsense for ten years. And where did it get me? I’ve lost the woman I truly love. I don’t even get the chance to explain myself!”
His voice rose with the swell of frustration, every word tinged with hurt.
“All for some invisible, untouchable ‘destiny, you had me tangled with Sylvie for ten years?!“}
Odessa’s face twisted in fury, but her laugh came out bitter.
“Brynn, are you blaming me now? You were a frail child. I prayed to every god I knew. Finally, someone said your fate carried coldness, and only a woman with a matching chart could hold it down! For ten years, you’ve been healthy. Who do you think you should thank for
“So what?“%
Brynn stepped forward, sarcasm flashing in his eyes.
“So I’m supposed to spend the rest of my life shackled to a loveless marriage? The one I want to grow old with is Natalie, not some damned fate “%
Odessa’s expression slowly stiffened, her throat dry, her voice shaky.
1 did everything for your own good.“B
“But you never once asked what I wanted.”
His words fell quietly, like a dagger piercing straight into her chest.
Their eyes met
The silence between mother and son pressed down like a winter frost
After a long pause, Odessa finally spoke, her voice cold and clipped.
Not today Today, you turned thirty, it’s the most critical day for your fate. You cannot touch this marriage, not even a day early.“}
Brynn let out a low, bitter laugh. “Then tomorrow. No matter what you say, I’ll still divorce Sylvie.”
Outside the door, Sylvie stood frozen. She had heard every word.
Ten years. She had followed Brynn for ten long years, from a girl seen as a life–saving talisman‘ when she first stepped into the house to the legal wife listed in the family registry.
She had thought, even without love, there would be something, some attachment, some reliance, at the very least, a flicker of warmth.]
But every word from Brynn just now had cut away the final thread between them.
7 never once wanted this
That single sentence echoed in Sylvie’s mind, draining all color from her face. Even her lashes trembled.
She had always known Brynn didn’t love her, but she never imagined he’d strip their relationship down to something so cruel, so humiliating 2
Sylvie staggered back, step by step until her body met the doorframe.
Her charst tightened like something heavy had lodged inside, refusing to let her breathe.
Could he truly be this heartless?
She thought, surely, all those years of giving and enduring must have meant something
Hedir? they been intimate? Tender? Even beautiful together??
Sylvie bat down hard on her lip as tears slowly welled in her eyes I
She refused to believe Brynin would truly theow everything away to chase after someone else.
Why when I did nothing, did i manage to take root so deeply in his heart?
