Chapter 19%
The next morning, Brynn said nothing as he dragged Sylvie straight to City Hall
Her wrist throbbed under his grip, but she didn’t dare fight back. Half running to match his pace, she tried to reason with him through shaky breaths
“Brother, do you really have to rush into this divorce?“%
Brynn turned his head slightly, his gaze sharp and cold as steel. “Call me ‘brother one more time.“%
Sylvie’s face went pale. Her lips trembled, but she swallowed her words.
Once they were in the car, she couldn’t hold back any longer. Her hands trembled as she pulled out her phone and held it up to him. “Look at this before you decide…”
On the screen was a set of candid photos.
In the sunlight, I stood at the entrance of an upscale restaurant, wrapped in a light–colored trench coat. Nestled protectively in the arms of a man, I looked like I belonged there.
He was tall and handsome, and his gentle eyes never left me.”
It was Hayden.}
The man whose name was on my marriage certificate.
The photos were a little blurry, but the closeness between us couldn’t be denied.%
“Natalie is already with someone else.“}
Sylvie’s voice trembled. “You saw it yourself. That marriage certificate wasn’t fake. He treats her like she’s his whole world; they’re really married.”
Brynn stared at the photos, his expression darkening by the second.
For a split second, pain flickered in his eyes, but it was quickly swallowed by something colder, something far more dangerous.
He glared at the screen, jaw clenched, his throat tight like it had been stuffed with stones. After a long beat, he growled,
“You knew where she was, and you didn’t tell me?!”
Sylvie lowered her head, caught between guilt and defiance.?
“I was only thinking about you. She’s married now; why are you still so obsessed with her? Brynn, just let her go. She clearly has no intention of coming back.“>
“Calm down?”
Brynn let out a sharp, humorless laugh. It sounded like something had cracked inside him.
He suddenly flung the phone onto the passenger seat. “You think I can’t see through you? These pictures, are they even real? Or are they one of your garnes again?”
Sylvie’s face twisted. “They’re not fake!“#
“I should’ve known you wouldn’t back off so easily.” He let out a chilling laugh, his gaze turning icy.
“Brother, listen to me! The photos are real!”
Before she could finish, he shoved her aside.
She slammed against the car door with a sharp cry, clutching her elbow as she crumpled to the floor, her face pale with pain that made her bones feel shattered.
At that moment, Solomon came running out from the villa. His eyes widened in fear as he saw the scene.
“Daddy, why are you hitting Mommy?!”
He cried out as he ran toward Brynn, clutching his beloved pet snake in his arms.
“You’re a bad guy! You’re bullying my mom! I’ll let Soren bite you!“%
He raised the snake high with a fierce glare.
Before Brynn could react, the bright green snake coiled swiftly around his wrist, its fangs gleaming coldly under the light.
His face changed in an instant. With a furious swing, he flung his arm and sent the snake crashing to the ground.
“You’re insane!” he roared, finger trembling as he pointed at Solomon in outrage.
The snake wasn’t venomous, but the shock left his hand numb, his heart pounding with panic.
And at that moment, a memory surged.
That day, when Natalie had miscarried
All because she’d been startled by Solomon’s snake.
That tiny life, so fragile and barely formed, had vanished in an instant because of a snake because of a child’s thoughtless game.
His vision blurred. His chest felt like it was being torn apart
“You and your son “he growled through gritted teeth, “make me sick to my stomach.“%
Sylvie’s face tumed ghostly pate. She rushed to shield Solomon with her body
Brother, it’s not what you think! Solomon’s just a child, he didn’t mean to..“)
“Of course he doesn’t Brynn snapped “He’s just like you, shameless from the very start!”
