Chapter 24%
Brynn still tried to speak, but Hayden didn’t give him the chance.%
His gaze turned ice–cold. With a slight nod, the bodyguards stepped forward like two towering walls, grabbing Brynn firmly and pushing him out of the door without hesitation.
Brynn fought back in fury. “You dare touch me? Let go of me! Natalie, Natalie, listen to me, just listen for a second!“&
“Natalie-!”
But I stood still, silent, letting the white gown cascade around me, trailing behind like a veil as though he were nothing but a stranger.
Hayden remained calm, his expression serene. He gently raised his hand to adjust the veil over my head, then softly asked, “Want to try another one?“%
I nodded, offering a small smile. “Okay.”
Outside, Brynn was held back tightly, unable to do anything but watch as the door to the fitting room slowly closed in front of him.
He punched the door in frustration, his teeth clenched as he turned to leave.
But he wasn’t giving up. He understood now I’d be marrying Hayden the day after tomorrow.
His eyes darkened, black as ink ready to spill.”
He could rebuild everything, win over shareholders, buy back equity, and restore his company. But, there was only one me.
He couldn’t afford to lose me.}
Back at the villa, the basement door creaked open, releasing a wave of damp, decaying air, the sound of snakes slithering across stone echoing in the silence.
Sylvie curled up in the corner, her hair a tangled mess, her face stained with blood, and the marks of snake bites.
She clutched Solomon tightly in her arms, like a half–crazed beast protecting its young.”
“Don’t be scared, don’t be scared, they won’t bite, they won’t. Mommy’s here, Mommy’s here…“)
Her voice trembled as she repeated the words, her body shaking uncontrollably.
But Solomon remained unnervingly still.
He sat in the corner, his pale face like paper, his usual fascination for the snakes replaced by a chilling emptiness in his eyes.”
The snakes had long been removed, but the cold of the basement and the psychological torment had already dug deep into their bones.
The lights flickered on.”
Brynn walked down the stairs, his face dark, eyes as cold as ice.”
When Sylvie saw him, it was as though she had seen her last hope for salvation. She scrambled toward him, throwing herself at his feet, kneeling with tears and snot streaming down her face.
“Brother, no, no, Brynn! Let’s get the divorce, please? I won’t cling to you anymore; I don’t deserve it, I really don’t deserve it!”
Brynn looked at her bruised, pitiful form with no more than distant indifference.}
He spoke coldly, “We’re going right now.”
With that, he grabbed her hand and walked up the stairs without a glance back.
But in the moment he turned, he failed to notice, behind him, Solomon slowly stood up, his gaze hollow, no longer resembling that of a five–year–old child.
All at once, Brynn felt a violent jolt, like being struck by a speeding truck, his body flung backward as he tumbled down the stairs.
“Ah!”
He rolled and crashed, slamming hard onto the icy, unyielding basement floor.
A sharp pain ripped through him, scorching and deep, like a blade tearing into flesh. A jagged rock buried in the corner pierced clean into the base of his thigh.
“Brynn!” Sylvie screamed, scrambling down after him in a panic.
Cold sweat drenched his entire body. His pupils contracted violently, his breathing turned ragged, and when he finally looked up, he met a pair of unblinking eyes..
Solomon stood at the top of the stairs, staring down at him in eerie silence.
