Ethan’s Perspective
Empty.
The room felt hollow, and my heart was just as vacant.
Even though Sophie was chattering away like a child beside me, my heart no longer raced like it used to.
Why was that?
A name echoed in my mind, reverberating endlessly.

I need to find Emma.
I rushed home, ignoring Sophie’s calls behind me.
I burst into the bedroom, desperately searching for any trace of Emma’s presence.
Opening the closet, I was shocked by its emptiness.

A bad feeling crept over me, and I hired a private investigator to dig into her whereabouts.
I needed to know what Emma had done before she left.
The investigator quickly got back to me, his expression shifting to one of concern as he spoke.

I checked the balance–over a million dollars, but now only a little over ten thousand remained.
Back at the company, I became obsessed with tracking Emma’s movements.
I learned that she had already handed off her work before leaving, leaving no room for herself to return.
Where could she possibly go?
She had no family left.
Suddenly, a thought struck me, her teacher.
I began investigating her teacher’s whereabouts and finally found a lead on her location.
I thought that if I just lowered my pride this time, she would surely come back to me.
All I needed was for her to know that I loved her.
If it didn’t work the first time, then I would try again.
But I messed it up.
I watched as the reasons for Emma leaving replayed before my eyes.
As I saw the distance between us grow wider, regret gnawed at my heart like a parasite until the very end.
When she stepped into that car, I knew we could never go back,
I would spend my life trapped in this place while she moved on to find her own path.
