Chapter 12
At Feshral Village in Westhrope, Nova stood behind a dilapidated podium, reading aloud from an elementary school language textbook.
It had been five days since she arrived at Feshral Village, and only now did she fully understand how harsh life was for the children there.
She had expected a lack of educational resources, but not this. Some kids couldn’t even get enough to eat. Their families‘ only source of income came from their parents heading out on fishing trips, again and again.
Still, since Nova had decided to take part in Project Westfort, she was going to give it her all.
She might not be able to bring material wealth, but she was determined to teach them all the knowledge they could use. Reading and writing wouldn’t guarantee a different life, but could be the way for them to make a change.
While she was leading a recitation of classical poetry, a commotion suddenly broke out in the classroom.
Nova looked toward the door and saw Flynn Scott leaning against the window with a playful smile. The moment he caught her looking, he raised an eyebrow at her.
Right then, the bell rang. Nova had no choice but to set the textbook down and walk over to him.
Flynn was a well–known playboy from Berning. He had confessed to her at least ten times, and she had turned him down just as many. What surprised her most was that he had also signed up for Project Westfort, especially considering how much he hated discomfort.
Ever since Nova worked alongside him here, her impression of him started to change. He was actually quite dependable.
She looked at him and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Flynn grinned and handed her his phone.
She unlocked the phone to find a video. In it, Ewan was downing drink after drink, looking nothing like the proud and polished man she remembered. He eventually slumped at the bar, drunk out of his mind.
Nova’s shock was impossible to hide. The Ewan she knew would never touch alcohol with a ten–foot pole. However, in this video, he didn’t stop drinking once. She wondered if that was really the same man.
Noticing her reaction, Flynn spoke in an unusually calm tone. “That woman Ewan was going to marry was a total scam. Her explicit videos got exposed during the wedding, and they blew up. The Shaw family lost a lot of respect. Word is, not only did he miss out on a promotion, but his boss chewed him out on the spot.
“And you know how vengeful he is. On the same day, he had Wynter’s kidney removed and shipped her off to Anunda. Honestly, it was brutal, especially for someone he used to love.”
Nova’s expression shifted. She was no stranger to Ewan’s cruelty. However, she had never imagined he would turn it on Wynter one day. Even now, thinking back to her past life made her feel a chill down her spine. Thankfully, in this life, she hadn’t repeated the same mistake. Flynn watched her with his eyes full of concern. From the moment he fell for Nova, he knew she had feelings for his uncle, Ewan.
However, he kept trying, hoping that his efforts would be seen eventually. Yet, all he got in return was rejection after rejection. Nova didn’t need to say it, but Flynn already knew the reason.
What did Ewan have, anyway? Sure, he looked good, but his character was rotten. He had trampled all over Nova’s love, using it as a weapon to hurt her again and again. What made a man like that worthy of someone as good as her?
The day Flynn learned what Ewan had done to Nova, he immediately launched an investigation into Wynter. What he found disgusted him. Her past couldn’t even be summed up in a few pages.
However, Ewan, cautious as he was, had never bothered to look into Wynter. Instead, he had directed all his malice at Nova, the person who had been kind to him.
Flynn hadn’t uncovered that video and all that evidence to ruin the wedding. He had only done it so that Ewan would live the rest of his life with guilt and never forgive himself.
When Flynn saw a video of Ewan drinking himself into a stupor on social media, he came straight here to share it with Nova. However, she didn’t seem happy at all
He had traveled all this way with one goal, which was to make her smile again. Trying to shift her attention, he said, “Nova, look. The weather’s really nice today. The sun’s even shining into the classroom.”
Nova turned to glance at the sunlight pouring through the window.
Flynn’s voice softened. “What I mean is, there’s always a brand new day waiting for us.”
