Chapter 15
“Yeah, I’m with him. So what?” Nova’s voice was ice–cold, her expression even colder.
Ewan’s tone grew stern. “I won’t allow it. Do you even know what kind of person Flynn is? He’s had a string of girlfriends for years. Guys like him never take relationships seriously. He’s just playing with you!”
Nova sneered. “You’re right. I don’t know what kind of person he is. But I know exactly what kind of person you are. Do you want me to list every single thing you’ve done to me?
“Furthermore, who I date now has nothing to do with you. So why don’t you turn around and go back to wherever you came from? You’re not welcome here.”
Ewan looked hurt. “Nova, you’d be mean to me for him? I’m doing this for your sake. I’ll never hurt you.”
Nova’s tone was sharper now. “Yeah, right. You did it for my sake. So much so, you made me donate my kidney to your first love without anesthesia.
“If that’s your kindness, then I want no part of it.”
With that, she grabbed Flynn’s hand and walked away without sparing a glance at Ewan, who stood there frozen, completely shell–shocked. He had crossed mountains to get there, stayed up for days just to see her, and this was what he got.
Knowing that she was with someone else hit Ewan like a punch to the chest.
Flynn glanced at Nova nervously. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said all that earlier. I just—”
Nova cut him off. “Don’t apologize. I know you meant well. In fact, I should thank you.” Flynn scratched the back of his head, his face lighting up. “Really?”
Nova nodded.
After a moment, he said hesitantly, “What he said earlier wasn’t true. Ever since I started liking you, I haven’t dated anyone else.
“I mean it. I’m not some spoiled playboy like they say. I’ve got my own business.”
Nova stepped forward, hiding the hint of joy in her eyes. “I know.”
Flynn’s face flushed red as he stammered, “Then… would you give me a chance to pursue you?”
Nova turned back to look at him with a grin. “If I hadn’t given you a chance, what exactly do you think you’re doing right now?” His ears turned red, and his voice was filled with excitement as he exclaimed, “Nova, one day, you’re going to be my girlfriend!”
A few days later, Flynn mysteriously dragged Nova out to an open field.
Nova looked at him with confusion. “What are we doing out here this late? I was about to go to bed. I’m exhausted.”
Upon that, a burst of crackling exploded in her ears. Then, bright, dazzling fireworks lit up the sky. Nova froze and was caught off guard. They were so vivid and beautiful.
Flynn opened his palm to reveal a necklace in it. It wasn’t just any necklace–it was the emerald necklace. The very same one Wynter had smashed into pieces.
The necklace had been restored, looking brand new. It was as if it had never been broken, and her parents had never left.
Tears welled up in Nova’s eyes. She hadn’t expected him to remember something she had said in passing.
Flynn’s hands trembled slightly as he confessed, “Nova, all my life, every decision’s been made for me. I’ve never decided anything for myself. But liking you is one thing I want to choose for myself.
“I had the necklace fixed because I wanted you to know that your parents have always been with you, just in a way you can’t see. And… would you let me be the third person to stay by your side and protect you?
“Nova, will you be my girlfriend?”
