Toby and Barney searched the entire basement to no avail, and Toby even tossed my pup’s corpse into the trash. I screamed and
tried to stop him, but my pup simply fell right through my soul and into the trash can.
It wasn’t until Toby opened the skylight that he had personally nailed shut and saw the bloodstains on the lock that he was
slightly stunned.
But soon afterward, he became even more furious. “Did she want to escape that badly? She’d rather escape with her pup than be my Luna, would she? Fine, Joyce! If you’re hiding in some dark corner watching me make a fool of myself right now, then listen
closely!
“I don’t want you anymore! From today onward, you’re no longer my Luna!”

He then smashed the Moonlight Ring into pieces.
Cecilia gingerly stepped around my corpse and stood next to Toby. “These corpses can’t really be Luna Joyce and her pup, can it, Alpha?”
Toby hugged Cecilia in distress and declared in a domineering manner, “There’s no need to be afraid, Cissy! This is all a part of Joyce’s scheme! We don’t have to wait for her to appear anymore!
“I’ll visit the shaman and obtain a Rejection Elixir to break the bond between me and Joyce immediately. Then, I’ll hold a meeting next week to announce our engagement!”
I gazed at the shattered Moonlight Ring, thinking over the fact that our relationship had been such a fragile thing in Toby’s eyes.
The first time I met him, he had come to our pack to discuss cooperation between our packs.
As one of our pack’s Beta, I had been the one to greet him. The moment we saw each other, we knew that we were each other’s
fated mates.
During the period of cooperation, we were constantly attacked by other packs, and I constantly protected him by his side as Beta.
The last attack from the pack caused us to become separated from our packs. We managed to hide away in the forest, with me protecting Toby, and I successfully managed to escape from the forest with an unconscious Toby in the end.
Afterward, he told me that he had thought his life was over in the past few days, and that he had fallen hopelessly in love with me.
I was my pack Alpha’s most valued Beta at the time, so I initially rejected him for the sake of my pack.
However, he persisted in pursuing my affections for three years and took our cooperation as an opportunity to confess to me many times over those three years.
He would send me fresh flowers under a full moon and angrily berate the elders who ridiculed me in meetings.
In the end, I fell hopelessly in love with him as well.
I slowly fell in love with the fated mate that the Moon Goddess had chosen for me throughout our cooperation.
Everyone told me that I was blessed with good fortune to have made Alpha Toby want to marry nobody else but me.
I had always thought the same as well. I got to marry my fated mate, after all!
Or so I had thought up until Cecilia returned to the country.
No matter the occasion, Toby would immediately leave me for her the moment she called, and he would tell me excuses every time.
“Cissy grew up alongside me, and she only broke up with me because you were my fated mate, so I owe her this much.”
“She’s just a weak Omega and has nobody to take care of her, so she can only stay home alone now that she has a high fever. That’s why I brought her here, so that you can take care of her instead.”

His heart was divided into two halves, and my half was gradually becoming smaller while Cecilia’s half continued to grow.
Before Cecilia returned, I was someone worth loving. But her return was like the rising of a brilliant sun, instantly eclipsing my
own dim light, rendering it insignificant in comparison. Yet, Toby still refused to let me go even though I had suggested we reject
our bond.
Back when he locked me in the basement, I had seen nothing but endless indifference in his eyes.
“I’ve thought it over, Joyce,” he had said back then. “If you want to reject the bond, you’re not allowed to have custody of the pup. You’ll also be locked up in this basement until the day you finally think things through.”
I was trapped in a basement as scary as the forest had been back then, except it was not an enemy pack that sealed me in this time, but doors and windows nailed shut by my former lover.
Just like that, my corpse was left to continue rotting in the basement as Toby continued to ignore it.
In his eyes, his and Cecilia’s engagement party was the most important thing right now.
