Chapter 10%
It wasn’t until Colette had walked out the door that the Ferrero family finally snapped out of their daze
The initial shock soon gave way to an even fiercer rage.
Enrico’s face turned a deep shade of purple as he bellowed orders for Colette’s belongings to be thrown out immediately.
“Unbelievable! There are so many people knocking at the Ferrero family’s door
“And she dares to walk away like this? People will think we couldn’t wait to get rid of her!”
“Get out! I never want to see her again!”
Magnus and Spencer stood frozen, their hearts heavy with conflicting emotions.
As they replayed the determined look on Colette’s face from just moments before, a strange emptiness settled within them.
It was as though something important had quietly slipped through their fingers.
“Brother, do you think Colette will really leave for abroad?”
Spencer pursed his lips, an uneasy feeling gnawing at him. Yet, recalling everything that had unfolded, he said with a hint of certainty. “She won’t. We’ve known her for so long. There’s no way she’d actually leave for good ”
“She’s probably just heartbroken after losing the child. Once she’s had some time to herself, she’ll calm down.”
Magnus thought it over, and it made sense to him, too. After all, who could truly walk away from the wealth and privilege of the Ferrero family?!!
“What a shame. In all the chaos, we didn’t get the chance to perform the uterine removal surgery.”
“If she cares about children so much, we could’ve given her uterus to Camille. That way, Camille could have children again, and it would be like fulfilling Colette’s wishes, too.”
Despite everything, they quietly went to retrieve Colette’s belongings, storing them carefully in the storage room.
They believed, without a doubt, that Colette would return. She had always been so mild–tempered. When she saw they had kept her things, perhaps she wouldn’t harbor a grudge
Meanwhile, Colette spent the next three days searching the mass grave.
Finally, in a distant comer, Colette found her baby’s lifeless body wrapped in a torn cloth.
The sky began to drizzle, the soft rain mingling with her tears, both falling endlessly 8
She cremated the baby’s body and then scattered the ashes into the sea. In that quiet moment, she thought, her child wouldn’t have wanted to remain in such a cruel, consuming world.
Once it was done, she gathered a few essentials, clothes, documents, and boarded a plane, leaving it all behind.
Before departing, she threw away her phone, abandoning every trace of her past life, her social media accounts, and her identity.
She would start anew, under a new name, in a foreign land. There was no set destination, no clear path ahead. But for the first time, she was truly free. Anywhere could be her home!
At first, Colette’s departure left little ripple in the Ferrero family.
Enrico’s rage, however, found a new target in Camille, forcing her to kneel as punishment for months longer than before. Any guilt Magnus and Spencer might have felt for Colette vanished completely.
Magnus hurled Colette’s old cup to the floor, the sound sharp and final
“That damn woman. Where did she run off to? Don’t tell me she’s waiting for us to home looking for her!”
“If she had just stayed and accepted her punishment, Grandpa might’ve cooled down by now, and Camille wouldn’t still be stuck in the hall
g with each hit. But as his anger drained, an intense, gnawing unease
He smashed several more of Colette’s things, his rage slowly fading began to creep in
Two weeks had passed since Colette left!
Could it be she really meant it when she said she was cutting ties with the family for good?2
Magnus pressed his lips together, the weight of the thought heavy
He had promised her that once Camille became the Moore family’s adopted daughter, even if Colette got divorced, everything would stay the same. He and Spencer had even agreed to offer her compensation for the child.
What more could she want? What was she still angry about?
After a brief hesitation, he picked up the phone. He hadn’t planned on calling, but now that things had quieted down, he realized he missed hearing her voice
The phone rang endlessly, no answer Magnus’s unease deepened with each passing
He called again And again. Still no response.
Then, suddenly, a notification flashed on his screen. An email from the City Hall
[Hello, your previously submitted divorce application has been approved ]
Magnus froze, his gaze fixed on the bold text glaring back at him it
