When we left the office with the divorce papers, Sierra suddenly understood that Declan and I were genuinely divorcing, that I was truly leaving them.
Nobody would tell her bedtime stories anymore.

She immediately let go of Declan’s hand and ran to cling tightly to my leg, crying out loudly, “Mom, please, don’t leave me!”

A crowd began to gather around us, and I became the target of their disapproval.
I held back my temper. “Take your daughter away!”
Declan tried to pull her away, but she wouldn’t budge. Sierra pushed his hand away, “Go away, Dad! It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t introduced me to Genevieve, Mom wouldn’t leave
me!”

I pried her hands off with an impassive face.
She cried so hard that her snot and tears were all over me.

His face changed several times. “Why should I take them home? I don’t even know them!”
“If you don’t know them, why are you involved in this? Were you by my bed at midnight, listening in on why I divorced him?”
I let out a cold laugh.
The man turned red with embarrassment.
A red sports car pulled up at the curb. I was about to look away when I noticed Kieran Johnson, dressed in a suit, walking toward me.

He held a stack of papers in his hand.
My heart skipped a beat, unsure of his intentions.
