My mother left the room soon after she introduced Christian. She left me on my spot, standing in a daze.
Christian slowly walked up to me and when our eyes met, he quickly looked away, his ears turning a light shade
of red
I’m sorry, Riley. Work has been a bit hectic, so I couldn’t come to pick you up,” he apologized.
I maintained a composed smile and replied, “It’s fine. Let’s go inside and talk.”
He grabbed my arm gently. “Wait a second.”
I looked at him confused, as he gestured for me to look up at the sky.
I lifted my gaze and, in an instant, I saw hundreds of drones flying in perfect formation.
Within seconds, they arranged themselves into a message in the sky. “Riley, welcome home.”
The next moment, soft pink sunset fireworks erupted into the air. The dazzling display was so mesmerizing I couldn’t look away.
Christian appeared a bit shy but his gaze was filled with sincerity. “Riley, you’ve been away for five years. I hope this time, when you return home, you can forget all your worries and stay happy.”
“Thank you, Christian,” I said, feeling deeply grateful.
I wasn’t a child anymore, but I had always dreamed of a grand gesture like this.
To my surprise, the man I was meeting for the first time had gone to such lengths.
For a moment, I found myself not resisting this engagement as much.
We entered the house together and Christian took the initiative to bring up the wedding, casually discussing the details with me.
It seemed his family was pressuring him and our wedding was scheduled for just a week later.
I had expected wedding preparations to be chaotic, but to my surprise, Christian had already taken care of most things on his own.
Still, there were a few decisions left for me to make.
For example, after he had booked the hotel, he drew up several layout designs for the event and asked me to
choose the one I liked.
He also hired a designer to come to our house and take my measurements for a custom wedding dress.
I spent my days immersed in these tasks, gradually leaving the past behind.
Then, one day, I received a call from Arnold.
As soon as I picked up, his tone was as if I owed him something.
“Riley, you left without finishing the project. Kayla just started and can’t manage it on her own. You need to come
back.”
The humiliation of that day flashed in my mind and I answered coldly, “Why should I care?”
He paused for a few seconds, clearly taken aback by my response. Then he tried again, his tone more tent “I’ll give you a million. Just come back for three more days.”
“Get lost”
Without hesitation, I hung up and immediately blocked his number.
Arnold, no amount of money could ever buy back the genuine heart I once gave you.
Most of the wedding arrangements were nearly complete.
Christian suggested we go out and get some fresh air, a little getaway.
I didn’t expect that he’d drive for several hours, taking me to an amusement park in a nearby city.

Seeing the serious expression on his face made me laugh. “I’m your fiancée and here you are encouraging me to
check out other men?”
His ears turned a little red and he mumbled, “Well, I’ve got some abs too. You can check mine out”
He glanced around quickly, “But we’ll have to wait until we’re back home. I can only show you then.”
His sincerity was undeniable. Our eyes met, but this time, it was me who looked away first
“Let’s go have some fun!” I quickly changed the subject.
Christian asked if I dared to ride the roller coaster. Not wanting to back down, I followed him up.
