Chapter 45
When Donovan entered the living room, he immediately noticed Giselle. He froze for a moment, gasping silently.
Though he was now used to her shocking antics, he still couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger at the sight of her in his home. He glared at her without saying a
word.
Sensing exactly what was on his mind, Giselle similed at him provocatively. In that instant, she made up her mind.
Turning to Zachary, she said calmly, “Zach, I’m suddenly feeling a little hungry. I think I’ll accept Mrs. Kane Senior’s offer and stay for dinner before I leave.” “Sure!” Zachary replied eagerly. Hearing that she had agreed to stay, he was thrilled. Without hesitation, he pulled her toward the dining table to grab a seat. Sering that Donovan had come home, Dorothea gently set her beloved cat aside and called everyone to the dining room. As for Donovan, his gaze never left Giselle. He simply couldn’t tear his eyes away from her.

Lowering his voice, Zachary added softly, “Uncle Don, can you stop holding a grudge against her? And please help me say a few good words to my parents later. Since I brought her home, you should know what that means.”
With that, he hurried back to the dining room and sat beside Giselle, ignoring Donovan’s disapproval entirely. Zachary cared for Giselle so openly that she couldn’t help but feel awloward throughout dinner.
Facing Zachary’s enthusiasm, Giselle found herself distracted. She kept glancing at Donovan from time to time.
What did y your uncle say to you earlier? Were you two talking behind my back? she teased softly,
“Nope,” Zachary said with a chuckle. Then, he lied, “He asked me where I found such a beautiful girlfriend and said I should’ve brought you home sooner.”
Giselle laughed. But she said no more, choosing instead to sip her water to hide her complicated feelings.
Soon, the rest of the Kane family arrived and took their seats. A grand feast was laid out across the long wooden table, and everyone prepared to eat.
The Kane family wasn’t very large. Dorothea, over 70 years old, was the family matriarch and eldest member. Her husband, Robert Kane–the founder of Kane Pharmaceutical Group–passed away more than a decade ago. Together, they had two sons and a daughter.
Their eldest son, Ethan, was in his 50s and served as the current chairman of Kane Pharmaceutical Group. His wife, Grace, worked in medical cosmetology. Their son, Zachary, was still studying at a prestigious university in Um
Donovan, in his 30s, was Dorothea’s younger son and the CEO of Kane Pharmaceutical Group. He spent most of his time alone at his private villa, rarely returning to the Kane manor unless necessary.
Dorothea’s daughter was in her gos, divorced, and ran a business overseas. Because of this, she seldom visited the manor.
Besides the core family members, a few others sat at the table–faces Giselle didn’t recognize. She assumed they were friends or distant relatives of the KaneL
Of course, Giselle didn’t care who they were, nor did she want to know. All her attention remained fixed on Donovan, her eyes flashing with mischief.
She was clearly there to stir things up, joining a wealthy family’s dinner without the slightest hint of embarrassment.
Watching Donovan sit directly across from her with lus usual cold, distant demeanor, Giselle decided to do something mischievous once again.
