Chapter 66
But because of Giselle’s resentment toward her biological father, Tony, she deliberately defied him and close veterinary medicine. She’d rather deal with cats and dogs daily, even if it meant her hands were constantly scratched, than treat messy, complicated humans.
After chatting for a while, Dorothea gave the order for dinner and asked Adrian to get Ethan and Donovan down from upstairs.
Within minutes, the two men who had just been discussing work in the upstairs study came down. They were still talking about some important project as they descended the staircase.
Giselle calmly tumed her gaze toward the curved staircase, eyes landing on Donovan.
Halfway down, he happened to look up and locked eyes with her.
Donovan paused briefly, his steps slowing just a little.
Seeing her show up at the Kane manor again, he should have been furious. But after their last heated confrontation, he seemed much calmer. His face gave nothing
Giselle was always testing his limits, and he was done wasting energy on her.
Once he reached the bottom of the stairs, he didn’t even glance in her direction. He walked straight to the dining room as if she were invisible.
Giselle’s eyes followed him, a cold smile tugging at her lips.
In truth, she had already confirmed with household staff here that Donovan would be at the Kane manor tonight.
That was why she had chosen this evening to return the cat.
When Ethan saw Giselle, he casually greeted her “Ms. Holt, you’re here.”
“Good evening, Mr. Ethan,” Giselle replied with equal politeness.
At that moment, Grace, who had just finished replying to messages on her phone, couldn’t help but sneer at Giselle. “Ms. Holt, if you came here to talk about your relationship with Zach, then I’m sorry, I don’t have time for that. You’d best leave.”
To Grace, Giselle’s reason for showing up with the cat was obvious–an excuse to please Dorothea, curry favor with the Kane family, and maybe even try to win back Zachary
Giselle let out a small scoff, not bothering to explain herself
Erhan leaned toward Grace and said softly, “She’s just a young woman, and she’s also Dr. Holt’s daughter. You don’t have to be so harsh.”
“So what if I am?” Grace didn’t hide her disdain. She raised her voice. “Frankly, Don handled the situation well. Sending Zach to the Usna branch was the night call. Who knows what woman would mess with his head if he stayed here? He’d be wasting his time chasing nonsense all day.”
“That’s enough,” Dorothea finally cut in. “Let’s eat. Zach’s already decided to stay in Usa, so there’s no point talking about it anymore.
With that, Giselle naturally followed the others into the dining room.
Of all the open seats, she deliberately chose the one next to Donovan. But he sat there like a block of ice, still refusing to look at her and eating silently.
A car hom sounded outside as Giselle was about to pick up her utensile
Moments later, Adrian appeared in the dining room and respectfully announced, “Ms. Kane Senior, Dr. Holt and his family are here.”
