Chapter 67
Hearing that, Giselle felt her heart sink. She looked up toward the entrance.
Soon enough, Tony and Renee entered the living room under the polite welcome of the housekeepers, with Anne following behind. The three of them were dressed formally, and an assistant carried several high–end gifts prepared for their visit.
Grace was the first to rise. Smiling warmly, she welcomed them and invited them to join the dinner table.
The Kane family didn’t seem surprised by their arrival, Clearly, they had been expecting them.
Dorothea, likewise, greeted them with polite indifference and invited them to join the meal.
“That’s very k
kind of you, Mrs. Kane Senior.
Renee was the first to reach the dining room. After greeting Dorothea respectfully, she smiled and said, “We already ate before coming, just like we said. Please, ahead and continue. We’ll chat after you finish.”
While saying this, Renee’s gaze unintentionally landed on Giselle sitting at the table. Her smile froze.
She stared, wide–eyed, in disbelief.
That bitch Gaselle was not only inside the Kane manor but seated at the table as a guest? What the hell was going on?
Giselle met her look with a faint smile and teased casually, “Renee, what a coincidence. You’re visiting the Kane family too? Though your timing’s a bit awloward- not too early, not too late. You’re not here just to scrounge a meal, are you?“!
Renee kept her expression composed, her smile still in place. In a patronizing tone, she turned to Dorothea and said, “I apologize, Mrs. Kane Senior. I didn’t expect our family’s other daughter to be here either. She can be manipulative. Her showing up like this must’ve caused you trouble.”
Then she turned and gave Tony a look
Tony, now seeing Giselle, was visibly surprised as well. He forced himself to scold her. “Giselle, why didn’t you tell us you were coming here? You shouldn’t bother Mrs. Kane Senior like this. It’s very inappropriate. Go home now.”
Giselle let out a cold laugh “Dr. Holt, that’s funny. You and I don’t really have any ties. Why would I need to inform you about where I go? You sent me abroad more than 20 years ago and left me to fend for myself-
“Alright, that’s enough,” Renee quickly interrupted, afraid Giselle would say something more damaging
She held back her anger and forced a smile as she apologized to Dorothea. “Sorry, Mrs. Kane Senior. There’s been a long–standing misunderstanding between Giselle and Tony. She hasn’t been able to let go. But no matter what, family disputes shouldn’t be aired in your home. I truly apologize.”
“Let’s not dwell on that,” Grace said quickly, smoothing things over and shifting the topic.
“You’re here to talk about Anne and Don’s engagement date. Let’s stay on track. Please, have a seat.”
To get to the main matter, Tony and his family took the available seats.
It had to be said that Tony, with his distinguished reputation as a top neurosurgeon, was still well respected by the Kane family, especially after saving Dorothea’s life. So even after the scandal involving Anne’s engagement video, the Kanes were still willing to treat the Holts courteously for Tony’s sake.
Coce everyone was seated, Grace helped guide the conversation again. “Dorothea, last time you and Don agreed to re–discuss the engagement. So Dr. Holt and his family are here specifically to discuss the date. Let’s be sure to pick an auspicious daythis time.”
“Yes,” Renee added with a slightly apologetic tone. “Tony is constantly swamped with patients, surgeries, and research. And Don’s just as busy. It is hard to find a time that works for everyone. That’s why we came over today, even if it was a bit rushed.”
