The SWAT team didn’t waste a second in the chaos. They surged forward within two seconds and pinned the man to the ground before kicking the blade several feet
away.
The police quickly untied Donovan’s arms, and the medics on standby rushed in to help.
Donovan paid no heed to his injuries and immediately turned to Giselle, who slumped on the ground beside him. His eyes were filled with a mix of p reprimand. “Are you hurt?” His voice was hoarse and weak
pain and
“I’m fine.” Giselle had barely calmed her racing heart from the intense situation just now. She got to her feet and quickly supported him alongside they made their way toward the ambulance. “Stop talking. Let’s get you to the hospital. You’ve lost too much blood”

He was found to be in no danger after receiving emergency treatment to stop the bleeding. The wounds on his body weren’t deep and didn’t affect any vital areas. He was expected to make a full recovery within about two weeks of hospitalization.
Meanwhile, Giselle had taken a heavy kick to the abdomen during those tense seconds grappling with the man earlier. Fortunately, the CT scan showed no internal Injuries, However, her palm had been slashed, and she suffered a
a deep cut.
She returned immediately to Donovan’s bedside after bandaging her palm.
She breathed a sigh of relief, a weight lifted from her chest, when she saw him wrapped in gauze, pale and weak but alive.
In the meantime, Donovan lay against the headboard and quietly stared at her without saying a word. He looked at her like he was entranced. He was utterly still. “What is it? What are you thinking about?” she asked.
“I want to wring your neck Far from being pleased he was alive, he glared at her, his voice low and full of frustrated anguish as he cursed. “Were you our of your mind? Is risking your life some kind of thrill for you?”
He didn’t feel the least bit relieved that she had risked her life to save him. He didn’t admire her bravery. All he felt was lingering fear.
The situation had beenso dangerous that even the trained police hadn’t dared to act recklessly. She was a defenseless woman. Yet, she had hurled herself into the line office without hesitation. She would have fallen under the madman’s blade if her plan had failed. He couldn’t even bear to imagine it.
“I didn’t have a choice. Those police officers were wasting time. They were just standing there talking while holding guns they wouldn’t even fire! If I waited for them to do something, you’d have been stabbed like a pincushion and bled out before they made a move!”
She couldn’t help but reach out to touch his face before smiling teasingly. “I was wondering… What if that man ruined your face with that blade? You’re so damn good–looking. I don’t think I’d want to live either if he ruined your face. So I just acted!”
He closed his eyes in exhaustion. The entire ordeal played repeatedly in his mind, especially the moment when she risked her life and lunged at the madman. The thought of it suffocated him, throwing his emotions into turmoil.
After a long pause, he finally spoke in a lowered voice. “What we have between us has always been a game. You didn’t have to risk your life for me. There are some things that I can’t give you in detur, even if you give up your life for me.”
