Chapter 94
Donovan stared intently at Diselle for a long time. It was so long that he felt like he was sering straight through her captivating eyes and into the depths of her soul.
He thought of her reckless courage that day when she had risked her life to save him. He thought of all the wild and outrageous things she had done to threaten him before, as well as her recent obedience and gentleness. In the end, he swallowed the words he was about to say.
“Why are you acting so strangely lately? Did Anne drug you or something? Giselle didn’t read too much into his earlier comment about wanting her to get a full medical checkup. She assumed that it came from concem.
Get me a glass of water,” he said gruffly
“Sure.” She immediately got to her feet and took his glass to fill it with warm water before gently holding it to his lips. “Here, drink it.”
“You know how to take care of a patient? He looked at her skeptically after finishing the water.
“Don’t mistake me for some spoiled rich girl who’s never done anything,” she said before grabbing the medication on the table and helping him take it.
Later, she brought another basin of water and used a wann towel to wipe his face, body, and feet. She did everything efficiently and attentively. She was more considerate than a caregiver. It was as if taking care of him was something that genuinely brought her joy.
He found himself staring at her in a daze from time to time.
This woman would give it her all in whatever she did. It was like she could murder him whenever she opposed him. Yet, she could risk everything whenever she cared for him. She could trample him or kneel before him. She would do anything as long as it got her what she wanted.
He had always known that she only ever saw him as a tool to use against the Holt family.
However, he just couldn’t push her away when he saw her flitting around him and tending to his every need with such willingness and devotion now that he was so vulnerable.
He had no interest in digging into her chaotic past for now.
After all, what they had between them was just a fling and a brief moment of Indulgence between two adults. There was no talk of marriage or commitments. Whatever kind of person she used to be, it had nothing to do with him.
From then on, Giselle stayed in the ward to handle his meals and personal care and assist the nurse in changing his bandages.
The coom was a luxurious VIP suite in a top–tier private hospital, on par with a five–star hotel. In addition to the ward, it came with a living room and kitchen, malding day–to–day living here Incredibly convenient
Someone from the Kane family would occasionally come to visit. She would discreetly disappear from their sight to avoid any drama. She even made herself scarce When Anne came by. She didn’t want to make a scene while Donovan was recovering,
A week had passed. Donovan’s injuries were healing well. He could already walk around freely. He would likely be discharged in around four to five days.
She sat beside him and wrapped her arms around his neck just after he finished a video call in bed that aftemoon and said, “Hey, since I saved your life that day, can we cut our one–month trial short? Can I officially start working at your company once you’re discharged?”
He shot her a sideways glance and said perfunctorily, “If you’re short of money, I give you some. I don’t have time to deal with your nonsense at work.” “Relax, I promise I’ll be on my best behavior in your company!”
He grew wary when he saw the sincere look on her face. “What are you trying to do?”
After all, he had seen the land of schemes she was capable of. He didn’t care if she stirred up trouble at the villa, with the Kane family, or anywhere else.
However, his company was his bottom line. Kane Group was a pharmaceutical leader. Their products were directly tied to human lives and safety. It also dealt with numerous trade secrets, making it a field where reputation meant everything.
He couldn’t let a woman with a messy record like her cause problems in such a high–stakes environment.
“I’m not as twisted as you think.” She sneered before looking at him seriously. “What if I said I just wanted a chance to be with you and to stay by your side every day? Would you believe me?”
He had never seen that kind of softness and conviction in her eyes before. He was stunned momentarily.
Her eyes were deep and expressive. When laced with emotion, they held a penetrating beauty that was so powerful that it made his heart tremble.
