Zachary was soon transferred to the city’s most prestigious private hospital.
Tony was a leading expert in neurology and the hospital’s deputy director. He immediately set aside all his current work and joined several other doctors to take over Zachary’s emergency treatment.
What followed was another long and excruciating wait.
After hearing the news, Renee and Anne arrived at the hospital to show their concem.
Renee walked in and immediately threw her arms around Grace, whose eyes were swollen from crying. She poured out a stream of comforting words before turning to console Dorothea as well. “Don’t worry, Mrs. Kane. Zach will definitely pull through. He’s going to be okay! Tony has handled many cases like this before. His surgeries are always successful. Please look after yourself first.”
“I hope so.” Dorothea looked like she had aged ten years overnight. Her eyes were reddened.
Renee tried to case the somber mood and leaned close to Grace before asking quietly, “By the way, wasn’t Zach in Usna? Why did he come back all of a sudden? Why did he go racing? What exactly happened?”
Grace rubbed her eyes and said, “I don’t know either. He came home yesterday afternoon and asked where Don was. He was furious. He kept asking if Don had been spending time with Giselle. I was confused then and didn’t get a chance to ask further before he stormed out again.
“I thought it might just be a minor argument between him and Don. It was normal to throw a tantrum. I never expected we’d get a call saying he had been in an accident later that night.”
Grace sobbed so hard she could no longer speak at that point. She was too overwhelmed by grief to even question what had caused the crash. All she could do was cry and state helplessly at the surgery room doors, praying with every ounce of her being.
Anne had been quietly observing the entire time and was already well aware of the truth. She stepped forward and said to Grace, “Grace, I don’t think any of you know the full story yet, do you? Giselle is the real reason behind Mr. Kane’s accident!”
Anne let out a sneer and decided to push all the blame onto Giselle.
she revealed the so–called truth with a look of righteous indignation. “Giselle was already messing around with Zach as early as last year. She was sweet–talking him on one end while setting her sights on Don on the other.
“She went after Don without a shred of shame. She was stringing them both along and lying to both sides at the same time.
“Zach must’ve caught her in the act himself after his unexpected return. Imagine how furious he must’ve been. It’s no surprise that he got distracted while driving in that state of mind and with his emotions all over the place.”
Anne purposely let the rest hang in the air and looked at the Kane family.
“I can’t believe she’s the one behind this!” Grace recalled how Zachary had brought Giselle over to the house as a guest not long ago, and how sweet and attentive he had been to her at the dinner table.
She believed Anne’s version of the events. Grace trembled with rage and wanted nothing more than to tear Giselle apart.
