Chapter 51

Amused, Evelyn arched a brow and taunted, “Mr. Blackwood, you’ve been following me since the press conference. Planning to break another one of my bones?”

“Evelyn,” Sebastian called her name, his expression icy. Anger simmered beneath his composed exterior. His gaze deliberately lingered on her slender arm, feigning indifference. She seemed unharmed—physically, at least.

“Do you have the divorce papers, Mr. Blackwood?” Evelyn’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Don’t waste my time. Let’s settle this quickly. I can have Nathan expedite the process—special cases like ours deserve priority.” Her eyes glittered with amusement.

The word divorce struck Sebastian like a blade. It was a term he had avoided, a reality he refused to acknowledge.

“You seem awfully pleased with yourself,” Sebastian murmured, stepping closer. His voice was low, dangerous.

Evelyn tilted her head. “What do you mean?”

“You’re playing both sides with the Whitmore brothers,” he accused, his gaze sharpening. “Using them to crush Blackwood Enterprises while pretending to be the victim.”

Evelyn’s smile didn’t waver. “Oh? And what if I am?” She took a step forward, closing the distance between them. “You taught me well, Sebastian. Business is war.”

His jaw tightened. “This isn’t business. This is personal.”

“Is it?” She laughed lightly. “Then why are you here? To beg me to come back?”

Sebastian’s eyes darkened. “You think this is a game?”

“No,” she said, her voice dropping to a whisper. “I think it’s revenge.”

The air between them crackled with tension. For a moment, neither moved. Then, Sebastian reached into his coat pocket.

Evelyn tensed.

But instead of the divorce papers she expected, he pulled out a small velvet box.

Her breath hitched.

Sebastian flipped it open. Inside lay a ring—not the one she had returned, but something far more exquisite. A rare black diamond set in platinum, surrounded by sapphires that matched her eyes.

“Marry me,” he said, his voice rough. “Again.”

Evelyn stared at him, stunned. Then, she burst into laughter.

“You’re insane,” she said, shaking her head.

Sebastian didn’t smile. “Maybe. But I’m not letting you go.”

She met his gaze, her amusement fading. “You already did.”

His fingers tightened around the box. “Then I’ll win you back.”

Evelyn sighed. “Some things can’t be fixed, Sebastian.”

He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Try me.”

The challenge hung between them, heavy and unspoken.

And for the first time in months, Evelyn felt something stir—something dangerously close to hope.
