Book 2 My Mate Deceived Me and Killed My Daughter
When my daughter was on the brink of death, tortured by a terminal illness…
Mark, my mate of ten years, looked at me with guilt etched across his face and spoke softly.
“I’ve heard from the tribe that someone is looking for an Omega to perform the full moon blood marriage ritual. Just one night, and you’ll get half a million dollars.”
Mark’s hand trembled as he reached for mine. After speaking, he slapped himself hard across the face.
“If it weren’t for me, this useless Omega… how could I have let you go through

something like this?”
My heart ached for Mark as I watched him struggle every day for our child. I felt the sharp pang of his guilt, but even more so, the suffering our daughter, Anna, was enduring.
Though the idea of the full moon blood marriage terrified me, I still agreed. “If it saves Anna, I’ll do anything.”
I thought that agreeing to it would be the solution–that Anna would be healed.
That is, until I overheard a conspiracy.
I had agreed to the blood marriage ritual, and Mark cried as he hugged me. Tears streamed down his face as he apologized, his eyes never leaving mine.

“Zara, it’s all my fault!”
Mark, ready to slap himself again, cursed himself out loud.
“If it weren’t for me, this useless man, you wouldn’t have to endure such humiliation.”
But before Mark could strike himself, I stopped him. Looking at him, my heart softened.
“I don’t regret marrying you” I told him. “Because marrying you gave me Anna. With Anna, my life is whole.”
I had Mark contact the other party and ask for a deposit in advance.
I would pay for Anna’s treatment myself.

Then I put on the black ceremonial robe that had been sent, and under Mark’s watchful eyes, I got into the car waiting for me.
The car drove on, heading deep into the forest.
I was about to call Mark to remind him to keep an eye on Anna, to tell her I was at a seminar if she asked where I’d gone, and not to let her worry too much.
Before I could dial his number, though, I received a call from the wolf clinic.
Confused, I answered the call and immediately heard the doctor’s voice.
“Anna’s mother, about Anna’s decision to forgo treatment, I think it’s important I inform you.”

“If Anna agrees to a blood transplant, there is a possibility of healing. You’ve all tried so hard–are you really giving up?”
The doctor’s words planted a seed of suspicion in me.
“Doctor, are you saying my daughter has decided to stop treatment?”
Just as I was about to remind Mark to stay by Anna’s side at all times, the doctor added,
“Your partner has already signed the papers to forgo treatment and has requested that our clinic issue a certificate for Anna’s bloodline dilution, indicating that you’re in serious debt and need to apply for compensation from the tribe council.”
My head buzzed, and before I could process this, the doctor continued.

“This illness is indeed a long battle, but I still believe Anna deserves a chance.”
I immediately interrupted him, my voice sharp, “Has Anna left the clinic?”
The doctor’s tone turned grave. “She’s been gone for half an hour. Didn’t you know?”
Of course, I had no idea. After hanging up, the car was nearing the heart of the forest.
I could clearly see the small house, draped in black curtains, and people dressed in tribal ceremonial garb standing at the door. As soon as the car arrived, they all approached.
I asked the driver for a moment to settle something.
He was understanding and, hearing that I

was here for the ritual to save my child, he sympathetically gave me two minutes.
In those two minutes, I called Mark. He picked up immediately, his voice filled with
concern.
“Zara, are you there?”
“Are you scared?”
Mark’s voice was calm, betraying no hint of anything wrong.
“If you’re really scared, I’ll come get you right now.”
Mark and I had known each other for over ten years. I never thought he would lie to me, but the doctor’s words gnawed at me like a thorn in my throat. I couldn’t help myself and asked him.

“Mark, where are you?”
O Mark hesitated for a moment, trying to
sound casual.
“I’m at the clinic, of course.”
A knock on the car window broke the silence, signaling me to get out.
I pressed him once more, reminding him to keep a close eye on Anną.
Mark just smiled, his voice warm. “Anna’s our only daughter. How could I not take care of her?”
Then he added, “Zara, you need to take care of yourself too. You’ve already given so

much for our family.”
I’ve always been sensitive, and even though I could feel the sincerity in Mark’s words, I couldn’t bring myself to mention the doctor’s call.
After hanging up, I quickly texted my friend Jenny, telling her where I was and giving a brief update, with one final request.
“Find out where Anna is, and what Mark is really up to.”
As I stepped out of the car, an older woman dressed in a black robe approached me.
The air around me was thick with the mix of Alpha and Beta scents, making my Omega senses flare with unease.
She reached out and took my hand. “You’ve

worked hard, child,” she said softly.
She went on to tell me about her son, who had died from a genetic disease. Despite draining their family’s entire fortune, they couldn’t save him.
Her son had never bonded with a mate, a regret that had haunted their family.
So, they devised this plan to ensure there would be no more regrets after his death.
As she spoke, I could feel the moonlight spilling through the window, casting a soft, ethereal glow.
The wolf inside me stirred, a reminder that the full moon was close.
But I had to control it–for Anna’s sake.

The mention of the genetic disease hit a little too close to home. I felt a sharp pang in my chest.
My own daughter had the same condition. When I first learned Anna was sick, I thought my world had collapsed.
Mark and I had emptied our savings–selling cars, homes, everything. We went deep into debt trying to save her.
But Anna never got better.
I couldn’t help but feel a deep sympathy for this mother, and I made a promise.
“I’ll do my duty.“”
I followed the group into the ceremony hall, where a large stone coffin sat at the center. They said it would skip the usual formalities.

All I had to do was light some wolf’s bane and offer a cup of moonshine to the late mother–in–law.
Then, I’d lie in the stone coffin with the deceased for the entire full moon night, fulfilling her final wish.
I was struck by how understanding she was.
I had researched blood marriage rituals before. Normally, these required a much deeper bond, sometimes even Omega marking their partner completely.
I had resolved that, no matter the request, I would agree–for Anna’s sake.
Nothing was more important than my daughter’s health.

But I hadn’t expected that after I toasted her, the mother would blink away tears and say:
“There’s no need for anything more. You just need to spend the night with my son. I’ll give you the rest of the money afterward.”
She glanced at my bag, hesitated, then asked, “At this moment, I don’t want any disturbances for my son, nor the purity of the ceremony. If you don’t mind, could you hand me your phone?”
I wanted to refuse. After all, I needed to be able to contact Anna. But then, thinking about how she must be feeling as a mother, I relented.
“Alright.”
I handed over my bag, and under their watchful eyes, I lay down in the stone coffin.

It was narrow, and I could only lie flat.
My arms brushed against the body beside me, sending a chill down my spine. I watched as they began to close the coffin lid.
Without thinking, I raised my hand to stop them, asking,
“Why are you closing it?”
I voiced my concern: “The coffin is airtight. If you close it, I’ll suffocate inside.”
This wasn’t an overreaction. I’d done my research.
Once that coffin was sealed, I could easily end up dead–out here in the middle of nowhere, deep in the forest.
