Chapter 5
The moment Sophia finished speaking, she completely broke down, tears spilling like a snapped string of pearls, impossible to stop.
“I don’t care if I have to live in a fucking doghouse! As long as I can be with you, Dylan! But the pup… the pup’s innocent! If Elena really loved you, she would accept our pup! But what did she do? She humiliated you in front of the whole damn pack–she humiliated the Alpha family! A woman like her-”
Before Sophia could finish spewing her resentment, the man standing before her, cold and sharp–eyed, cut her off.
“And what right do you have to judge my mate?”

“Sophia Ashford, Dylan said, his voice like a frozen whip, “I thought you knew your place. Looks like I overestimated you.”
He snatched the boarding pass from the attendant, towering over Sophia with a gaze full of disdain and icy indifference.
“No matter how many pups I father outside of marriage, Elena Silverstone will always be my one and only soulmate.”
“And when you leave–take all your shit with you!“‘
“I don’t want Elena finding your garbage and blowing up again.”
Sophia stood frozen, tears streaming down her face. After a long, suffocating pause, she let out a broken, bitter laugh.

“Ha! Alpha Dylan Blackwood, you’re an even bigger fool than I ever was.”
“You really think, after everything you’ve done, Elena would ever come back to you?”
A woman understands a woman’s heart–but Dylan didn’t hear a damn word.
He turned on his heel and walked away without a second glance.
He knew his mate too well.
For nine years, no matter how furious Elena got, all he ever had to do was lower his head, apologize, maybe toss her a few gifts, and she’d eventually forgive him.
But this time…

This time was different.
She had signed the soul severance agreement.
In blood.
No bouquet, no shiny gift was going to fix this.
With that brutal truth clawing at his gut, Dylan got off the plane and headed straight to a nearby tattoo parlor.
He pulled out a design–something Elena had sent him five years ago–and told the artist coldly,
“No anesthetic. I’m in a fucking hurry.”
Seven hours later, he walked out, his blood–stained white shirt clinging to his skin.

Armed with millions of dollars‘ worth of gifts and 999 pure white roses, Dylan–who hadn’t slept in 48 hours–got behind the wheel himself and tore down the highway toward a private vineyard on the outskirts of the Silver Moon Pack.
The whole drive there, he rehearsed what he would say, heart hammering a sick, desperate rhythm in his chest.
Yet no matter how he tried to phrase it, every version ended the same way.
–“Elena Silverstone, I miss you so fucking much.”
Finally, he found me.
But the moment his eyes landed on me, the roses slipped from his hand.

Bathed in the golden sunset, I stood nestled in the arms of a tall, devastatingly handsome man, laughing with a sweetness Dylan had never seen before.
I playfully fed the man a grape, my face radiant, carefree–free of him.
The words he’d rehearsed died on his tongue.
All he could choke out was:
“Who the fuck is that?”
Sensing my sudden tension, Lucas Knight casually tightened his arm around me.
“You must be Alpha Dylan Blackwood,” he drawled, flashing a lazy smirk. “Saw your wedding photos–gotta say, you look a hell of

a lot better in pictures.”
I burst out laughing in Lucas’s arms, every ounce of weight I’d carried lifting right off my chest.
Dylan felt like a hammer had smashed straight into his ribs
His nails dug into his palms, blood seeping between his fingers.
Lucas, still looking relaxed and amused, quirked a brow.
“Since you came all this way, let’s be civilized and do introductions-”
“I’m Lucas Knight,” he said with a sly grin. “Elena’s-”
“Lucas?” Dylan’s voice snapped cold, sharp

as a whipcrack.
“Yeah, I know who you are” Dylan sneered.
“The filthy little traitor. The son of a damn driver who got kicked out by Elena’s grandmother after he stole from the Silverstone family.”
Lucas just lifted an eyebrow, utterly unfazed by Dylan’s venom.
But I stepped protectively in front of Lucas, my face hardening.
“Dylan, Lucas isn’t who you think he is. More importantly–what the hell are you even doing here? You know trespassing on private property’s illegal, right?”
The cold bite in my voice made Dylan’s face darken.

He completely forgot he was here to beg-
Not to fight.
“Elena, cut the crap. I came here myself. Let’s go home.”
“Home?”
I looked at him like he’d lost his damn mind.
“Did the car crash fry your brain? We signed the mate bond severance agreement! I signed it with my own blood! Don’t tell me you didn’t even get that?”
Sure, it was rare for something that important to get lost, but not impossible.
Just as I debated whether to send another copy, Dylan’s voice sliced through, low and

cocky.
“I ripped that piece of shit up.”
“Elena, I get it. You’re pissed. But Sophia’s gone. I handled it. I swear to you–she’s never showing her face again.”
He stepped closer, reaching out like he could somehow patch the shattered pieces of us together.
But before he could touch me, I shoved him back, cool and steady.
“Alpha Dylan,” I said, clear and firm, “when my family went bankrupt, yours was the only one that offered a hand. I paid back that debt with nine years of marriage.”
“Now, Sophia’s carrying your pup. The Alpha bloodline has its heir. I sincerely wish you

Dylan was many things, but he wasn’t stupid.
He heard it–the finality in my voice.
Felt it in his bones.
I was gone.
Gone for good.
And I was never coming back.
