I was just dragging my suitcase to the door when Gareth Baxton and Noah Baxton
returned. Seeing me like this, Gareth gave me a cold look. “What, are you planning to run away from home?”
“I haven’t even started with you- I told Daisy you’d bring porridge, but you didn’t show up. Made me look like a fool!”
“We just left without telling you yesterday, and now you’re making a big deal out of it?”
I looked at Gareth Baxton standing in front of me. He still had that young appearance, as if time hadn’t left many marks on him.
In contrast, I’d been a housewife for ten years, completely out of touch with society.

Even wearing new clothes didn’t give me confidence.
I didn’t want to engage with him, so I tightened my grip on the suitcase handle and walked around him. He grouched, “Where are you going? Noah and I haven’t eaten yet!
”
Patiently, I waited for the elevator. Without turning back, I replied, “The divorce papers are on the table. Remember to sign them.”
Gareth snorted derisively behind me, “You’ve got nerve now, huh? I’d like to see where you think you’re going without me! You better never come back!”
“You want a divorce? Look at your own shortcomings first!”

button and, before the doors closed, responded, “Don’t worry, I won’t.”
After a five–hour train ride, I returned to my mother’s house.
Arriving at the door, I found my mom basking in the sun. Seeing me, she happily called out, “Lyn, what brings you back? Where are Gareth and Noah?”
I looked at my mom bitterly, unable to find the words as tears began to fall.
Seeing my state, she immediately understood and gently patted my back. “Our fates seem so similar, it’s all my fault.”
When I was fifteen, my dad cheated, and his pregnant mistress showed up flaunting her belly.

As my mom trembled with anger, ready to slap her, my dad kicked her to the ground.
He blamed my mom, “It’s your fault for not giving me a son after all these years. Worthless.”
They divorced soon after. Being a girl, I was naturally abandoned by my dad and followed my mom.
Bringing my thoughts back, I saw my mom watching me with concern. I forced a smile and shook my head. “It’s okay, Mom. I’ll pull myself together soon, don’t worry.”
My mom wiped her eyes and rambled, “You came back without a word. I should go buy groceries.”
I went inside to rest, but soon a little girl knocked on the door. “Grandma, these are

meatballs Grandpa made…”
Mid–sentence, the girl paused, blinking at me in confusion. “Huh, where’s Grandma?”
I chuckled, crouching down to pat her head. “Grandma went to buy groceries. I’ll tell her when she’s back. Thank you.”
The girl pondered for a moment, then clapped her hands. “I know, you must be Auntie Jones, right!”
She continued, “Grandma said she has a daughter, gentle and kind. That must be you!”
Hearing this, a pang of sadness washed over me, thinking how I barely returned home because of Gareth and Noah. How lonely my mom must have been.

Just then, my mom returned with the groceries.
After the girl left, I asked her, “Is that the granddaughter of the Thomases next door?”
My mom sighed, “Yes, the couple wasn’t happy they had a girl, so they had another child and left her with Thomas. She’s a sensible child.”
