Chapter 10%
“I’m just a victim of circumstances…”
“Enough. Elijah, don’t make yourself sound so pitiful. You had your selfish motives. If I had been the heir, staying by my side wouldn’t have been a bad option for you. But if I was ruined and Scarlett’s son took my place; you’d still benefit. At your core, you’re just as selfish as she is, you two are cut from the same cloth.“>
Elijah’s face paled at my words.
“But everything I’ve done for you, all the care and love, was real. Can’t you forgive me for the sake of our ten years together?“”
“Impossible.” My voice carried no hesitation. “Elijah, these are the consequences of your own choices. You deal with them yourself.“}
I pressed the call button by my bed and calmly told the nurse I would not be seeing him again.
Elijah was thrown out.]
A week later, news spread like wildfire, Scarlett was finally facing trial.
I opened the live broadcast and she was still wearing that arrogant smirk.”
“Seriously? Do you think you can convict me based on some so–called chat records? You don’t even know if they’re real or fake! If you don’t have solid evidence, then let me go already!“}]
The prosecutor spoke with razor–sharp precision, dragging the trial out for two hours and weaving a web of logic that left little room for escape.
Even without solid proof, his words carried weight, laced with barbed jabs that exposed Scarlett’s lies and called out Elijah for deceiving me into a fake marriage.
Scarlett’s composure cracked. Fury burned in her eyes, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t outmatch the lawyer’s relentless attacks.
“Defense lawyer, I think your behavior is shameless! Don’t you agree?“}]
Unfazed, the lawyer turned to Scarlett’s attorney, waiting for a response.!!
Her lawyer hunched over the case file, avoiding eye contact. With a deep sigh, he muttered under his breath, “Damn, just because they have money, they think they’re untouchable? If I knew I’d be humiliated like this in open court, I never would’ve taken this stupid case.”
His words nearly sent the entire courtroom into laughter.
By the end of the trial, Scarlett was utterly humiliated; her face, once flushed with anger, deepened to a mortified purple. It was
almost comical.
Yet, I found it far too lenient. A ruined reputation in the U.S.? That was barely a scratch. She deserved worse.
I hadn’t expected my parents and Elijah to take matters into their own hands.
Since that day, the atmosphere at home had turned suffocating. My father, disgraced and impeached by the board, hadn’t stepped foot in the company in weeks.
My mother wept endlessly, clinging to the hope that Elijah could convince me to return.
But he told her the truth; I refused to see him.
Only then did they realize I had already erased every trace of myself from that house?”
The gifts my parents had given me, the memories I once shared with Elijah, every last fragment had been reduced to ashes in the study.
Not a single photo remained. Not a shred of my presence lingered in that house.”
“My little Azalea… she must hate me to her very core. I should never have softened my heart. I should never have listened to any of you back then…“5
“Enough! We all made this mistake together; what’s the use of crying over it now?“}]
“Didn’t you say Azalea had surgery abroad? Find a way to send him some money. It’s the least we can do to make amends.“!
Scarlett shot up from the sofa as if burned.
“Dad, you can’t! She is why we’ve fallen this low, hounded like vermin, crushed beneath everyone’s heels. And you still want to help her?“%
Her outburst startled her son into wailing.
Elijah swiftly picked up the child.
“You scared him! And don’t forget, you were the first to betray Azalea! We all sacrificed to protect you, to cover up your sins and now you dare to turn on us?”
Scarlett’s expression darkened, her resentment boiling over.”
“Don’t think I don’t know how many times you’ve crawled back to Azalea over the past five years,
