His face drained of color. Hands trembling, he ended the call and frantically dialed my number, only to be met with a cold, dead silence. My phone had been turned off long ago.
“Dad, the ceremony is about to start. Let’s go!!
Scarlett tugged at his arm, urging him toward the stage, but before she could grasp the red ribbon, a murmur rippled through the crowd.
“That’s him, right? The chairman of Harrison Group, how heartless! He protected his adopted daughter while condemning his own flesh and blood to a wheelchair. Disgusting!”
“Wait isn’t that his adopted daughter? Unbelievable!*%
Just then, Elijah stormed onto the stage, phone clutched tightly in his hand, his expression laced with panic.
“Dad! Something’s happened! We need to leave now!”
Without hesitation, he dragged my father off–stage, leaving Scarlett frozen in place, bewildered as whispers spread like wildfire around her.
Inside the speeding car, my mother clutched her seat, her voice sharp with anxiety. “What on earth is going on?!”
Elijah didn’t answer until they arrived home. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a bottle of fast–acting heart medicine and pressed it into my mother’s hands before finally speaking.
“Azalea found out we lied to her.”
“What?!”
My mother’s face twisted in shock while my father let out a long, weary sigh.
“The doctor called earlier… He told me Azalea overheard our conversation that day. I’ve already asked him to come over. We’ll deal with it once he gets here.“%
But Elijah cut him off, voice tight with urgency.
“No need to wait, Dad. She’s already uploaded everything online.“2
Elijah shoved the phone into my father’s hands. With each scroll, the color drained from his face.
A single tap opened an audio file. His own voice crackled through the speaker, clear and damning. It was a recording from the hospital, captured while I had been sedated. His confession played for all to hear.?
The comment section below was a battlefield, flooded with outrage.Z
[Even a tiger wouldn’t eat its own cubs! He abandoned his own daughter for the sake of his adopted one, leaving her to rot in a wheelchair. Absolutely heartless!]
[Did you see? They even destroyed evidence after deceiving her. That’s a crime!]
[To the person above, her husband signed a letter of forgiveness in her name. It’s in black and white. Even if they committed a crime, they won’t serve a day in jail!]
The fury online only grew louder, voices demanding justice, questioning if these villains would truly walk free.
My mother barely glanced at the screen before clutching her chest. Her legs buckled and she collapsed.%
Elijah scrambled to steady her, hands shaking as his phone rang nonstop. The flood of calls carried accusations of betrayal, whispers that he had been two–timing.
But my father’s patience snapped the mornent he saw Elijah’s secondary account exposed. His voice thundered through the room.
“I told you not to leave any evidence! And yet, you didn’t delete the chat logs?! You even had the audacity to post photos on your feed?! Are you a complete fool?!”
Elijah, his face burning with frustration, muttered under his breath, “Dad, I didn’t know Azalea would go through my phone and find my alt account…“%
Before either could say more, the door swung open.
The doctor stepped inside, his face grim. With a deep sigh, he extended his hand, offering every last shred of evidence.%
