Micah’s eyes flickered with anger. After a long pause, he drew a deep breath and forced himself to steady his nerves.
“Whatever. What’s done is done. I’m not here to argue about that. I came to see Tabitha.”
“Let me guess, you’re here to invite me to your wedding with Piper, aren’t you?”
Micah frowned, and his voice became lower. “I want you back at the company. I’ll pay you three times what you used to earn.‘
I did the math in my head. Even three times my old salary likely wouldn’t compare to Jared’s offer.
Besides, after everything between Micah and me, did he honestly think I’d walk back through that door?
“I’m not interested.”
Micah’s expression hardened at my straightforward refusal.

“Why not, Tabitha? T&P Tech has flourished significantly over the past few years. Returning now would open up endless opportunities. Plus, if you introduce new innovations, I’ll make sure you’re granted company shares once more.”
His offers sounded tempting, but none of them interested me.
“No, thank you. I’ve already taken another job. Besides, I’m not as resilient as Sterling. I couldn’t stand working alongside someone I despise every day.”
Micah didn’t seem convinced. After all, he had already spread the word in the industry that any company bold enough to hire me would be challenging T& P Tech.
“Don’t be stubborn, Tabitha. I know I’ve wronged you, but you don’t have to turn down a great offer. Don’t let personal grudges derail your career.”
I was too exhausted to argue. I simply turned around and headed straight home.
Micah tried to follow, but Jared stepped in and blocked his way.
“Micah, there’s no use pestering Tabitha any further. She already began working at my new company this morning.”
I missed what was said after that, and Micah never reached out to me again.
I assumed that was the end of it, until a month later when Lena suddenly appeared.
“Tabitha, Micah and Piper have broken up. He can’t stop thinking about you and keeps telling me how sorry he is for hurting you. Will you give him another chance?”
By now, I’d long since lost any goodwill toward Lena.
If she truly felt guilty, she wouldn’t be trying to convince me to stay with a man who betrayed me.
“Sorry, Ms. Turner, but I don’t waste my time chasing lowlifes from the past.”
The moment I said that, Lena’s face shifted. The kindness in her eyes hardened into a steely glare.
“What exactly are you implying? Micah is the general manager of T&P Tech, for heaven’s sake. How could he possibly be beneath you?”
gave a faint smile, refusing to argue. “Yes, Micah is impressive. But it’s me who’s not good enough. Maybe you should find someone else.”
My dismissal only seemed to enrage Lena. “Seriously, Tabitha, if it weren’t for Micah’s feelings for you, you wouldn’t even be worthy to carry his shoes. Keep hopping from one man to the next, and you’ll be left alone and forgotten when you’re old!” she snapped.
I frowned, ready to fire back. All of a sudden, a furious voice rang out from behind Lena.
“Who says no one wants her?”
