Chapter 24 Being Head Over Heels in Love
Ophelia noticed Glenda’s gaze upon her and didn’t mind at all, allowing Glenda to inspect her. Then, as she glanced at Madeline, who was sitting on the floor. Ophelia impulsively tugged at Winford’s sleeve without giving the action a moment’s hesitation.
“How should we handle Madeline?”
Winford looked at his sleeve. Her pale, thin fingers were noticeable against his dark shirt, making him want to hold her hand.
His big hand twitched a bit, but he stopped himself from doing it.
He spoke in a deep, slow voice, almost like he was letting her have her way, “What do you think?”
Ophelia didn’t see his strange action. When she heard his question, she quickly told him her problem.
“I gave her a chance yesterday. I told her if she did it again, it wouldn’t just be getting kicked out of Sunset Vista. She not only didn’t listen, but she even broke the jade pendant Grandma gave you, and she blamed me for it. That’s completely unacceptable.”
Winford said, “You are right.”
“I think just kicking her out of Sunset Vista isn’t enough. We should give her to the police and let them deal with her.”
Even kids in elementary school knew to call the police when there was a problem.
Winford said, “Okay.”

“Huh?” He agreed so fast. Ophelia turned her head, confused. “Did you hear what I said, honey?”
Why did he seem like he wasn’t paying attention?
Winford looked away from her hand, and his handsome, serious face appeared calm. “Just handle her as you say.”
“Mr. Winford! I know I’m wrong…” Madeline suddenly broke down and started to cry loudly.
That jade pendant looked very expensive. How could she pay for it? Was Ophelia going to put her in jail?
Winford frowned, looking a bit upset.
Graham saw Winford was bothered by the noise and quickly signaled.
Someone immediately pulled Madeline away.
Then Winford spoke to Glenda softly, “Grandma, why did you come here without telling me in advance?”
Ophelia looked around, also finding it strange.
The jade pendant was sent by a servant, so Glenda hadn’t planned to come. But she did come, and it was at just the right time when Madeline accused Ophelia of breaking the jade pendant.
Glenda held Ophelia’s hand and said kindly, “Elva just came to visit me, and she mentioned you. I was worried, so I came to see you.”
Elva?
Ophelia lifted her eyes to look at Elva, confident that her guess was
correct.
She wondered how Madeline dared to break the jade pendant that Glenda had given to Winford, and now she suspected that Elva was the one behind it all.
While she was thinking this, Glenda looked at Ophelia.
“Ophelia, it’s nice to see you. You’re really beautiful.”
Glenda’s voice sounded surprised. At first, mentioning the engagement with the Greene family was a last resort. She thought, as Harriet’s daughter, Ophelia wouldn’t be bad.
But later, Glenda checked on Ophelia and found her very different from her mother.
Doing badly in school might be because she was not smart, but skipping school a lot was a problem with her attitude. She hardly went to school in a semester, only showing up for exams. She never attended school classes, but she still got the top grade every time, as if she wasn’t afraid of people finding out she was cheating.
Luckily, Ophelia’s stepsister was outstanding in school and had a good character, always pleading on Ophelia’s behalf, so the school did not impose any punishment on her.
Afterward, when she saw the photos of Ophelia dressed for various banquets, Glenda was so shocked that she nearly fainted.
At that time, Glenda already felt some regret. She had wanted to contact the Greene family to call off the engagement, but she didn’t expect Samuel to act so swiftly and send Ophelia over.
Yesterday, Glenda called to gauge the situation and was surprised to hear from Winford that he had a good impression of Ophelia. She was astonished and couldn’t help but wonder if Winford had different tastes from ordinary people, which was why he didn’t like the previous girls.
”
Glenda had already decided to come and take a look, so when Elva mentioned it today. she used the opportunity to visit Sunset Vista.
However, Glenda was stunned the moment she saw Ophelia because this girl was completely different from what she had imagined.
She was smart. lively, stunningly beautiful, and even dared to act spoiled with Winford.
Ophelia didn’t know how complicated Glenda’s feelings were. She assumed a respectful demeanor towards an elder, being polite and graceful. “Thank you, Grandma.”
Glenda nodded, pondering for a moment before saying, “Let’s forget the past and not mention it again. You are Winford’s wife, so you need to learn how to behave like a real lady, for example, being more generous in your actions.”
Ophelia was stunned.
Seeing her being reprimanded, Elva secretly smirked.
“You are being rather harsh in your punishment for Madeline. She only took a few withered flowers from you, so why make such a big deal out of it? Even if she hadn’t taken them, you would have thrown them away. Deducting several months‘ bonus for this seems a bit excessive.”
Ophelia opened her mouth but before she could speak, her hand resting on the armrest was gently grasped by someone.
It was a large hand that easily enveloped her entire hand, conveying a soothing message, and signaling her to stay calm.
Her skin felt like it had been burned, and Ophelia’s sense of injustice instantly vanished.
She even felt a bit disheartened, staring at his handsome profile and

resentfully thinking. “Why did he let go so quickly? It wasn’t even a second.”
“They weren’t ordinary flowers,” he stepped forward to explain. “I gave them to Ophelia. She kept them in her room for many days and made them into bookmarks. The theft of these flowers is not a trivial matter.”
Glenda was stunned.
She was surprised that Winford would speak up for Ophelia in front of
her.
Could it be that Winford really liked Ophelia, to the point of being head over heels in love with her?
Glenda’s eyes showed suspicion and surprise.
She couldn’t help but look at Ophelia again.
Or were the previous girls just not attractive enough?
Ophelia felt awkward from the staring. “Grandma, what’s wrong?”
“Oh, nothing. Since that’s the case, Ophelia, you’ve done a good job.”
Ophelia didn’t know what to say.
Suddenly receiving Glenda’s praise made her feel a bit out of place.
Her ears became hot, and she couldn’t help but look at Winford.
He quickly raised his gaze, his deep eyes meeting hers. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Glenda didn’t live in Sunset Vista because Winford didn’t want his family to see him in his very ill and frail state. Feeling heartbroken for Winford,

Glenda understood and gave him the space he needed, only visiting occasionally to check on his health.
Usually, she came here and left with a look of worry, but this time, she was content and satisfied.
Because of this, when she left, her look towards Ophelia was much gentler.
Elva was so jealous that it bothered her. As she escorted Glenda out, she couldn’t help but whisper, “Madam Pruitt, I think Ophelia must have said something to Mr. Winford, which is why he dared to retort you.”
