Chapter394
“I didn’t get off the car, you can go in by yourself,” Xander said.
Isabelle felt a bit unwilling, but she didn’t dare to say anything more, afraid of arousing Xander’s suspicion again.
Had to get up and move away.
Xander was about to leave when, at that moment, Ophelia came over.
“Xander.”
The clear and melodious voice made Xander suddenly pause.
Turning his head, he saw a familiar figure. His jaw tightened abruptly, and he said expressionlessly, “Why are you coming over?”
Ophelia didn’t pay any attention to his expression at all. She softly said, “Of course I saw you, come over and let’s talk.”
“What’s there to say?” Xander didn’t look at her, his clear voice tinged with impatience and annoyance. “I have things to do, so I’ll leave first.”
Ophelia reached out without hesitation through the car window and grabbed him, “You don’t have anything to say, but I do!”
Xander had already started the car, but he was startled by her action and quickly turned off the engine.
“What were you doing?!” His face suddenly darkened, and he shouted angrily.
Ophelia paused for a moment, blinked her eyes, and said, “I had my
limits. I wouldn’t let myself get hurt, Xander, don’t worry.”
Xander’s expression froze, and he coldly said, “Who would worry about. you!”
Ophelia didn’t pay much attention to his attitude. She suddenly glanced at Isabelle beside her and smiled faintly, “I have something to say to my cousin. Can you leave, please?”
The phrase “my cousin” made Isabelle feel extremely grating, and then she found it incredibly laughable.
What’s the point of Ophelia going to such great lengths to please the Whitaker family? Will they really forgive her? Ha!
She was not at all worried about Ophelia and Xander being alone, because out of the entire Whitaker family, Xander was the one who despised Ophelia the most!
So she obediently said to Xander, “Xander, I’m going in.”
Then, he glanced at Ophelia mockingly and walked away.
“Let go!” Xander glanced at the leek–white fingers gripping his arm and said coldly.
Ophelia let go and obediently engaged in small talk with him, asking, “How are Grandpa and Grandma doing lately?”
Xander raised his haughty eyebrows and sneered, “You used to care about our grandparents?”
Ophelia said sincerely, “In the past, it was my fault. I now realize my mistakes. I remember that my grandfather was not in good health, so if there is anything, please let me know.”
Xander pursed his thin lips and ignored her.
Ophelia continued, “And also, Xander wouldn’t help Isabelle bully me, right? I am your cousin, after all.”
Xander continued to speak coldly. “Isabelle wouldn’t bully you.”
“Really?” Ophelia smiled faintly, “Then how.come Xander is here today? Did you come here voluntarily?”
Xander hesitated and, thinking about Isabelle’s words just now, couldn’t help but furrow his brow.
He was rarely at home and didn’t have much contact with Isabelle, but in his impression, this adopted sister has always had a noble character.
But just now, she actually used the life–saving favor from five years ago to blackmail him…
Xander vaguely felt that the other person seemed somewhat different from what he had in mind.
But he was feeling restless, and looking at the girl slumped against the car window, he couldn’t calm down and think carefully. He roughly thought that maybe he was overthinking
I was just a little disappointed with Isabelle.
Ophelia didn’t miss the change in his expression. She curved her lips into a faint smile and said earnestly, “Xander, there have been too many misunderstandings between me and the Whitaker family over the years. I hope you can give me a chance to explain – who I really am. I will gradually make you all see.”
