BOOK1–Chapter 1 — The Truth
ROSE
“I’m done hiding my identity, I’m ready to take over,” I said into the phone before I hung up.
My lips trembled and my eyes stung with unshed tears as I stared at the reminder of my husband’s betrayal in the wardrobe.
I let out a bitter laugh as I grabbed his jacket to check the pockets for more female panties but I didn’t see any except the red pants that were now lying on the floor.
I had come to take out my husband’s clothes for laundry and I searched his pockets. He was fond of leaving money in his pockets, so I dug around but instead of money, I found a

red lace thong.

I knew the pants I had and I was certain this wasn’t mine. My mind instantly went to his assistant, I was sure she was the owner of the
pants.
“Five years…” I murmured, tears rolling down my cheeks.
Five years ago I eloped with Jacob when my parents refused me to marry him. With my hidden connections, I was able to make him actualize his dreams of being a successful businessman.
But then, two years after our marriage, Jenna showed up. She was the daughter of a wealthy businessman and she wanted to be Jacob’s assistant.
With Jenna’s connections, she pulled more

weight and brought more powerful people into the company, tripling Jacob’s company profit by millions of dollars.
That was all it took for Jacob to sway toward Jenna. She became his doting assistant while he ignored me. He didn’t outrightly announce their affair but I’ve always had my suspicions.
His late nights, his late phone calls, and now this… what was her panties doing in his jacket?
I’ve already made up my mind to leave but I decided I was going to see Jacob and confront
him this time. He hasn’t been home since
yesterday.
I took a shower and dressed up. The cab took me straight to his office and I paid. I stared at the huge company I helped him build over

the years.
Not once did Jacob ever offer me a position here. He always said he loved how I stayed at home to tend to the house.
But ever since Jenna came into the picture, she became his best assistant. Every day he praised her, I was so naive I didn’t see the signs then.
I entered the elevator and headed to the last floor. As I stepped out, the receptionist saw me and smiled politely at me.
“Good morning, Ma‘ am, Mr. Lowell isn’t around,” she said to me.
I nodded, “Don’t worry, I can wait.”
I walked into the office and I was surprised to see Jenna sitting on my husband’s chair

with her leg sprawled across the table.
Immediately she saw me, her eyes widened with surprise and she jumped up from the chair. Heads bowed, she smiled nervously at
- me.
“Mrs. Lowell, I’m sorry I was just waiting for Mr. Lowell,” she said.
I scoffed, “Cut the crap, Jenna, I can see right through your shit.”
Jenna raised her head and stared at me with a defiant look, the terrified expression on her face gone.
“I’m trying to be nice, Rose,” she said to
- me.
I was momentarily stunned by the change in her attitude and the coldness of her voice.

“Finally dropping the act, eh?” I asked her
with a scoff.
“What do you want, Rose? Your husband isn’t here,” she snapped at me.
“You forgot these in his pocket,” I hissed, throwing the nylon at her.
She picked it up and opened it. A coy smile formed on her lips when she saw what was inside.
“Next time don’t forget your underwear,” I stated.
Rose chuckled, “Did you think I forgot these? It’s not my fault your husband wanted something he’d remember me with whenever he was stuck with you!”
My hands moved before I could think and I

slapped her hard across her face. She clutched her cheeks and smiled, her eyes red and her lips split.
“I don’t care what happens between you and Jacob, but you have no right to speak to me like that!” I hissed at her, vibrating with
anger.
“I tried to be nice, Rose, just remember this is all your fault,” she grinned.
“What are you talking about?” I was confused.
Then suddenly, she grabbed my arm and shouted in a loud voice.
“Mrs. Lowell, please, have mercy! I’m sorry.”
“Let me go,” I groaned, trying to pry my

hands from her grasp.
She released me and I watched with wide eyes as she took three steps back before falling and hitting her head on the side of the table.
I let out a scream as the carpet became
soaked with blood while Jenna lay lifeless on
the floor.
