Chapter 18 – The Abduction
ROSE
The cold metal pressed against my back, and panic surged through me. I could feel my heart hammering in my chest, and my breath came in quick, shallow gasps. Jacob’s grip on my arm was bruising, his voice low and insistent as he yanked me towards the car.
“Don’t make a sound,” Jacob hissed, his voice laced with desperation. “You’re coming with me, whether you like it or not.”
“Jacob, please-” My voice cracked as I struggled to pull away, but his hold only tightened. “Let me go. You don’t want to do this. Please, just let me go.”
“No!” Jacob barked, his face twisted in a

crazed mixture of anger and something darker. “I can’t lose you. I can’t lose everything I’ve worked for. You think I’ll just let you go
after everything? You think I’ll let Xander take you from me?”
I froze at the mention of Xander. That was the last thing I needed to hear right now. I swallowed hard, trying to steady my breath.
“Jacob, I’ll help you. I can help you save your business, but you have to let me go. I’ll help you. Just–just let me go!”
He didn’t even flinch. His eyes were dead set on something beyond reason. “Shut up and get in the car.”
With my heart in my throat, I allowed him to push me toward the car, my body trembling. I could hear the voices in my head screaming

for me to run, but there was nowhere to go.
He had me trapped, and he was willing to go to any lengths to keep me.
Once inside, Jacob slammed the door shut and began cuffing my wrist to the car handle. I tried to pull away, but it was no use.
The cold metal of the handcuffs bit into my skin, making my blood run cold.
“Jacob, please,” I pleaded, my voice shaky, “this isn’t you. This isn’t the way. You don’t have to do this.”
His jaw was set, eyes steely with
determination. “I’m not letting you go, Rose. Not now. Not ever.”
He slid into the driver’s seat, slamming the door with a finality that sent chills through

- me. The engine roared to life, and we sped off into the night, the city lights blurring past as I struggled to think of a way out.
For the entire ride, I begged him, my voice a constant stream of pleading. “Jacob, please. If you just let me go, I can help you. You can still fix your business. Let me help. I’ll help you get it back.”
Jacob’s eyes never wavered from the road. “I don’t need your help. I’ve been working my whole life to build something, and I’m not going to let it all go to waste. You think I’m going to let Xander have you? Let him win? No. I won’t lose you to him.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat, my heart pounding harder with each word he spoke.
“I’m not your possession, Jacob. You can’t just

But he wasn’t listening. His mind was set. He kept his focus straight ahead, hands gripping the steering wheel like his life depended on it. I tried to think, tried to make sense of what was happening. But all I could feel was the overwhelming fear creeping in.
The car slowed as we turned onto an old, dark road. The trees loomed over us like silent sentinels, and the further we went, the more isolated the surroundings became. I had no idea where we were going, but I knew it couldn’t be good.
Finally, the car pulled to a stop in front of an abandoned warehouse. The heavy metal gates loomed in front of us, rusting with age, and the entire area felt suffocating, as if the

darkness was closing in around me. Jacob threw the car into park, and before I could say anything, he unbuckled his seatbelt and climbed out of the car, roughly pulling me out by the handcuff.
“Jacob, what are you doing?” My voice was hoarse now from pleading, but I couldn’t stop. “This isn’t you! You don’t have to do this. We can fix this. You don’t have to throw
everything away.”
Jacob looked at me then, his expression flickering for a moment before hardening again. “I love you, Rose. I never wanted to hurt you. But if I’d known you were the
heiress of Anderson, none of this would’ve happened. I would’ve never bothered with Jenna. I wouldn’t have done all of this if I’d
known.”

I laughed bitterly, the sound escaping from deep in my chest. “So you would’ve stayed with me if I were rich? Is that what you’re telling me?” The hurt in my voice was undeniable. “You only cared about me if I could give you what you wanted.”
“No, Rose,” Jacob’s voice softened, but I could hear the desperation in it. “It’s not like that. I thought we were building a future together. I thought I was doing everything for us–for you. I didn’t know who you really were.”
“Stop lying, Jacob.” My voice was sharp now. “You did what was best for you, not for us.”
He stepped closer, his eyes wild with obsession. “You don’t get it, do you? Now that we’re together again, we’ll fix everything. We’ll get married. We’ll travel back to where it

all started. I’m not letting Xander have you. We’re family. You and me.”
“No, Jacob,” I whispered, backing away from him, a chill running through me. “This isn’t love. This is an obsession.”
But Jacob didn’t listen. His eyes glinted with madness as he grabbed my wrist, forcing me to move with him. And then we heard it.
The blare of police sirens.
A voice over a megaphone echoed through the dark night, sharp and commanding.
“Jacob Lowell! Come out with your hands up! You’re surrounded. There’s nowhere to go.”
Jacob’s face contorted in rage. He dragged me to the front of the warehouse, pressing me against him, a gun now firmly pressed to my

I’ll shoot. Don’t think I won’t.”
I could feel the tremor in his hands as he gripped the gun tighter. My breath caught in my throat. Fear crept up my spine, and I felt tears stinging at the corners of my eyes. This wasn’t how it was supposed to end.
Then, a gunshot rang out, and the world seemed to stop.
