Chapter 5 – Make Him Jealous
LYNN
The moment Ethan asked that question, it all came rushing back to me–the confusion, the hurt, the sense of betrayal. I had married him, not because I‘ d suddenly fallen for him, but because I had been angry. Angry at Javier for thinking he could just walk into my life and take everything for granted.
I wasn’t going to be his second choice. I wasn’t going to let him feel like I was just waiting around for him. That’s why I had married Ethan. I needed to make Javier feel the same pain I felt when I realized he was. marrying someone else.
I stared at Ethan, my anger simmering under the surface. “I married you because I want to make Javier pay,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging. inside me. “I want him to feel what I’m feeling right now.”

“And you think making him jealous will solve everything?” he asked, his voice quieter now, as if he was considering the
idea.
“Maybe not everything,” I replied, my jaw tightening. “But it‘ 11 make him realize that I’m not just going to sit back and watch while he marries another
woman. If he thinks I‘ 11 wait for him like some damn backup plan, he’s wrong. I’m done being his second choice.”
Ethan studied me for a long moment, and I could feel the weight of his eyes on me.
“You really believe this will work?” he asked, the skepticism in his voice now tinged with curiosity.
“Of course, it will,” I shot back. “If you’d just help me. You‘ re the one who refused to divorce me when I suggested it, remember? That means you want. something from this marriage. So, help me make him jealous.
“How do you know I want something from

this marriage? Maybe I just refused to divorce you because I wanted you to be sure about your decision,” Ethan said.
I scoffed, “I’m not dumb, Ethan. It seems I told you everything there was to say about me and Javier, enough for you to decide not to marry me but you went ahead with my drunken plan and now you
refused to divorce me a few minutes before Javier arrived so I’m not wrong. You want something.
Ethan chuckled. “Smart,” he said with a grin. “I’m impressed. So, you‘ re trying to make him think you‘ ve moved on by using me. But what’s in it for me?”
I folded my arms, tilting my chin up defiantly. “You want something from this marriage, Ethan. If you help me make Javier jealous tonight. I’ll help you get what you want out of this marriage.”
His gaze softened, and there was something unreadable in the way he looked at me now. “You‘ re a clever

one,” he said slowly. “I don’t know why Javier let you slip through his fingers. But I think you might just be right. This is going to get interesting.”
I didn’t want to feel pleased by his words, but I did. Maybe this was the way I could finally make Javier understand. I had never been anyone’s second choice, and I was tired of being treated like one. If he thought he could string me along and marry someone else, he was wrong.
“Fine,” Ethan said, his voice dropping as if he’d made a decision. “I’ll help you. But there’s more to this than just making Javier jealous, Lynn. I’ve got my own reasons for getting involved in all of this, and you’ll see them tonight.‘
I tilted my head, intrigued but still on guard. “What do you mean? What’s your angle?”
Ethan smiled, a knowing, almost
dangerous smile. “That’s something

see exactly why I’m not just some bystander in this whole mess. There‘ s more at stake here than just you and Javier. But trust me, you’ll get your chance to make him regret what he’s done.”
I wasn’t sure what he was getting at, but his words sent a chill down my spine. Was he playing some game of his own? Or was he telling me the truth? Either way, I wasn‘ t about to back down.
“Tonight,” I repeated, my voice low. “We’ll make him regret everything.”
