Chapter 14 – A Shocking Truth
LYNN
I stood there, trying to explain myself, my heart pounding in my chest. Barbara‘ s eyes were cold, and Theodore’s face remained stone–faced as they both looked at me with disapproval.
“Nora‘ s faking it,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm. “She‘ s acting, exaggerating the whole thing. It’s not what it looks like.”
But they didn’t seem to buy it. Barbara raised an eyebrow, her lips pressing into a tight line. “Lynn, we‘ ve known Nora for years. She’s never been one to make things up,” she replied, her tone dismissive. “You‘ re going to have to do better than that.”
Before I could respond, I heard footsteps approaching, and my gaze shifted to see Javier walking in, his expression angry.

Javier‘ s glare hardened. “You‘ re a liar, Lynn. You hurt her, and now you‘ re just trying to cover it up.”
I opened my mouth to argue, but a firm voice cut through the tension.
“That’s enough, Javier,” Ethan said, stepping into the room. He stood tall, his eyes burning with a protective intensity as he walked toward me.
“Ethan,” I said quietly, relief washing over me, but I knew this wasn’t going to be easy.
“Mom, Dad,” Ethan said, turning his gaze to his parents. “I know you‘ re concerned, but I believe Lynn. I don‘ t think she pushed Nora. This is all just a

misunderstanding.”
Barbara didn’t look convinced. “But she’s injured, Ethan. You can‘ t just ignore that. We’re not going to let this
- go.
Theodore nodded in agreement. “Lynn, we expect you to take Nora to the hospital immediately and make sure she gets treated properly. This is a serious matter.”
Reluctantly, I nodded, my stomach knotting at the thought of spending more time with Nora. But I had no choice. I couldn’t argue with them–not when they were so insistent.
“Fine,” I muttered, turning on my heel and walking toward the door. “Let’s go, Nora.”
Nora didn’t waste a second. She strutted ahead of me, her heels clicking against the marble floors as she marched toward the car. I followed, fuming silently.
The drive to the hospital was eerily quiet.

Nora didn’t say a word to me, but I could feel the tension radiating off of her. When we arrived, she practically strutted into the building, as if she were the most important person there.
“Let’s get this over with,” I muttered under my breath as we checked in. But Nora had other ideas.
Once we were inside the waiting room, Nora turned to me with a smug smile.
“You know, Lynn,” she began, her voice dripping with fake sweetness, “it’s only a matter of time before Ethan’s parents realize what kind of person you really are. You won’t be here for long. They‘ 11 kick you out, and then I’ll have won.
I clenched my fists, my patience wearing thin. “You‘ re delusional if you think I care about what happens to you,” I shot back, my tone sharp.
Nora didn’t respond, but I could see the triumph in her eyes. She thought she had everything figured out, that somehow she

was going to come out on top.
We were soon called into the doctor’s office, and Nora wasted no time settling herself into the seat with an air of entitlement.
“Get me a drink,” she demanded, her voice as if I were her servant. “I‘ m thirsty.”
I took a deep breath, trying to hold onto my composure. “Fine,” I said, my voice tight with frustration. “I‘ ll get your damn drink.”
I walked out of the office, muttering under my breath, trying to calm the storm inside me. As I approached the vending machine, I saw a few nurses chatting nearby. I made my selection and was about to head back when I froze. My ears picked up on a conversation that made my heart stop.
It was Nora’s voice, but this time, it was soft, almost pleading.
“I need you to induce me, Doctor,” she

was saying, her voice low and serious. “So I would bleed again. I need it to look real.”
My heart hammered in my chest. The doctor’s voice followed, sounding concerned but firm.
“This isn’t healthy, Nora,” he said. “Especially since you‘ re not truly pregnant. You‘ re playing a dangerous. game.”
I stumbled back a step, my hand gripping the drink so tightly that I almost crushed the can. Was Nora really…? Was she pretending to be pregnant?
I felt my stomach churn as the doctor’s words hit me. Nora wasn‘ t pregnant. She had been lying this whole time.
