Chapter 28- The Daughter They Didn’t Know About
I rushed inside the room, grabbed my allergy pills from my bag, and ran back out 11
“Chase, here!” I shouted, pushing the pills into his hand.
Cynthia helped me hold Rose’s head gently as Chase coaxed her, “Sweetheart, you have to swallow this Please, baby”
After a few tense moments, Rose managed to take the pills. We didn’t waste time.ll
Chase lifted her in his arms and we all raced to the hospital
My heart pounded the entire way. “We were careless, I said, choking on my words. “We didn’t even check her allergies. This is our fault.” Chase squeezed my hand. “We’ll fix this. I promise!
Cynthia sat at the back, biting her nails, her face pale with worry
When we got to the hospital, the doctors took Rose in immediately. We sat in silence, helpless, waiting.
Finally, a doctor came out. “She’s stable now. She reacted badly to the strawberries, but she’s feeling much better.”
I let out a sob of relief and hugged Chase tightly.
“Can we see her?” I asked.
The doctor smiled kindly. “Yes. But also… I suggest we run a full allergy and medical panel for her. Just to be safe moving forward ” “Yes, please,” Chase answered immediately. “We need to know everything “X
We went into the room and there was Rose, looking tiny and frail on the hospital bed, but smiling at us bravely.
“Mommy, Daddy, see? I’m okay,” she said, her voice soft but bright.
Tears blurred my vision as I walked over and kissed her forehead. Chase did the same, brushing her hair back gently.
“You scared us, Rose,” I whispered.
She giggled weakly. “Sorry”
The nurse came in, checked her vitals, and nodded, “She’s doing well. She can be discharged soon.“70
Not long after, the doctor called me and Chase aside X
He looked serious. “We’ve completed a more extensive report on Rose’s medical history.”
“Please, tell us: Chase urged.
The doctor flipped through the files. “She’s severely allergic to mangoes and peanuts too. You need to be very careful.”
Chase’s brow furrowed. “I’m allergic to mangoes and peanuts too.”
The doctor paused. His next words made my whole body freeze.
“There’s something else,” he said carefully. “Rose has a very rare blood type. One that matches certain families including yours, Mr. Davenport
! blinked at him, not understanding. “What are you saying?“?!
The doctor hesitated, then continued, “I got curious. Since we have your DNA samples from previous medical checkups, I ran a test. Rose is biologically your daughter.”
The room spun
I stood up so fast my chair toppled over. “No… no, that’s impossible,” I gasped, backing away.!!
Chase caught me before I fell
I shook my head, muttering. “She died. I. I saw her. They told me my baby was dead.”
Chase looked just as stunned, his knuckles white as he gripped the table. “This can’t be “X
The doctor handed us the results. My hands shook as I stared at the paper.
Probability of biological relationship: 99.99%.
I clutched my chest, struggling to breathe. “How? How could this happen?‘
The doctor’s voice was gentle. “I don’t know Maybe maybe the woman listed as her guardian can give you some answers.”
Tears streamed down my face as Chase pulled me into his arms. I could hear his heart thudding wildly against my ear
Cynthia came rushing over when she saw us.
I handed her the paper with trembling fingers X
Her eyes widened as she read it “Oh my God,” she whispered.
Leo, who had come to join us, glanced over Cynthia’s shoulder at the paper. His face tightened. “You need answers. We should see the woman who raised Rose
I wiped my tears and nodded, my body moving on autopilot E
We returned to Rose’s room. She smiled when she saw us, but her smile faltered when she saw our f
“Am I in trouble?” she asked in a tiny voice
“No, sweetheart Chase said quickly, kneeling by her bed. “We just we need your help.”
She tilted her head, confused “Help with what?“%
“We need to know where you lived before you came to us,” I said gently, sitting beside her.
Rose’s eyes filled with tears. “Are you taking me back?!
My heart broke. I cupped her face. “Never, baby. Never. You’re our daughter. We’re just trying to understand.” Chase added softly. “We love you, Rose. You’re our little girl ”
She sniffled, then slowly nodded. “Okay. I’ll show you.“!
