Chapter 26
Finding herself at the hospital again, Candace felt a crushing weight in her chest. After emergency treatment, Jamie’s right eye had finally stopped bleeding, and he was being kept for observation.
She breathed a quiet sigh of relief, only to be urgently called into the doctor’s office. “Ms. Brightshield, your son’s right cornea is severely damaged and needs a corneal transplant within 72 hours.
“Otherwise, the corneal deterioration will gradually worsen and spread to the entire eye, and we’ll have to remove the right eyeball.”
“What?” Candace felt like she’d been struck by lightning.
She rushed over and frantically hit the man standing by the wall while screaming, “Shawn, why did you have to go after Yelena’s son? Why did you drive her to desperation?
“My Jamie is only two years old! If he goes blind, how is he supposed to live? What am I supposed to do now?”
“Candy, Yelena’s son’s death was an accident!” Shawn said as he gripped her shoulders.
He continued in a grave tone, “Don’t panic. I’ll definitely find a suitable cornea for Jamie as soon as possible. His eye will be fine!
“And I’ve already had Yelena locked up! She can’t hurt you anymore!”
“How can I not panic? Jamie’s cornea has a very unusual shape! It’s different from a normal child’s!” Candace broke down sobbing.
“How are we supposed to find a suitable donor in such a short time? You bastard! Just how much more are you going to hurt us before you’re satisfied?”
“Candace!” Zayne pushed through the door, his expression serious.

“I’ve already contacted all the medical resource banks domestically and internationally to help find
cornea. I’m sure we’ll have news soon!”
Seeing him made Candace’s tears flow even harder as she threw herself into his arms and sobbed. “Zayne, I hate Shawn to death! He’s the reason Jamie is hurt like this!”
“Candy…”

“If you have any regard for what you once had, then get lost and stop bothering her!”
“Shut up!” Zayne glared at Shawn and barked harshly, “Listen here, you bastard. Candace never understand?

Shawn watched Candace sobbing quietly, pain spreading from his feet throughout his entire body until he could barely stand.
He had merely wanted to build a good relationship with his son. Instead, everything had gone wrong, and his son was suffering so much.
He wouldn’t allow anything to happen to Jamie’s eye. Otherwise, he would never forgive himself for the rest of his life.
He backed away slowly, closed the door, and made a decision.
During dinner, Candace received notification from Dr. Marcus Bedwood that a suitable cornea donor had been found and the surgery could be performed first thing the following morning.
She was both surprised and overjoyed. She then asked about the patient who was providing the corneal donation.
Marcus said. “Ms. Brightshield, it’s hospital policy that donors and recipients remain anonymous. Please don’t make this difficult for me. Do let Jamie get some rest.”
“Alright, thank you!” Candace returned to the ward and couldn’t wait to share the good news with Zayne.
He seemed to hesitate, remaining silent for a long time before saying, “Candace, there’s something I think you should know. The donor is Shawn.
“He went to the ophthalmology center this morning for a complete examination, and all his parameters were a perfect match. But typically, corneal donors are patients who died within six hours. So if a living person donates, that person will go blind.”
“What?”
Candace’s smile froze on her lips as she asked in disbelief, “Has he lost his mind?”
“Candy, I’m not crazy. I know exactly what I’m doing.”
Shawn’s voice came from outside the window. “From the time Jamie was born until now, I haven’t fulfilled any responsibilities as a father. I want to do something for my son.”
Candace looked at him, her voice catching. “Shawn, even if you donate your cornea to Jamie, I’m still going to marry Zayne. I won’t come back to you. Are you still willing to do it?
“If you go blind, people will discriminate against you!”
“I’ll do it!” Shawn gazed into her eyes with unwavering determination.
“I’m willing to do anything for you and our child! Even if it means going blind or it costs me my life, I’ll gladly do it!”
