I agreed with what Yves said.
As soon as I got home, I burned the notebook where I had recorded all the little details of our relationship. With that, there was no longer any evidence of me and Jason ever being together.
Those seven years of our relationship were now permanently sealed away in the depths of my memory.
Fearing that Jason might come looking for me again, I immediately told my mom that I wanted to move back home.
She was overjoyed and even asked Yves to help me move.
Within a few days, I successfully moved back. And not long after, I went on the blind date my mom had arranged. To my surprise, my blind date turned out to be my senior from university, Evan Brooks.
Back in school, he had always looked out for me–gentle and refined, patient with everything he did, and always respectful of my choices.
During the date, I was upfront with him and told him I couldn’t quickly accept someone new in my life.
Evan didn’t push me. Instead, he said, “Then I’ll keep waiting–until you’re ready to let me in completely.”
It was then I learned he had noticed me back in our university days, but I had been so focused on my studies that I never realized his presence.
From that point on, we became close friends who could talk about anything. Neither of us broke through the thin layer of ambiguity between us.
Jason, however, refused to give up. He would occasionally wait outside my office like a stalker.
Yves, furious at his persistence, eventually dragged him into a fight.
That day, Jason, like an abandoned child, lay on the ground crying uncontrollably.
When Yves recounted the incident later, his anger still lingered. While eating, he said, “He used to be so inseparable from Shairine, but now he claims he dated you for seven years? That guy’s insane!”
“Good thing you never really dated him. Imagine watching your boyfriend flirt with another woman–it’d be unbearable.”
I nodded in agreement. “Exactly. I don’t even know what he was thinking. There’s no way I’d ever be with him.”
I completely erased those seven years from my mind and focused on moving forward.
Later, my company offered me the opportunity to study abroad, and I didn’t hesitate to accept it.
This time, I only told Evan and my family about the trip.
Following the company’s arrangements, I soon boarded a plane to an unfamiliar country.
But as soon as I stepped off the plane, I saw Evan waiting for me outside the airport.
I was pleasantly surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“I happened to be on a business trip here. When I found out you were flying in today, I decided to come and wait for you,” he explained.
I hadn’t told him my exact flight time, only that I’d be arriving in Paris that day.
“You’re pretty impressive, guessing my landing time so accurately.”
Just then, a man holding a sign walked past and chimed in, “This young man has been waiting here since
morning. He’s been looking out for you countless times.”
Hearing that, Evan’s pale face flushed red with embarrassment.
A wave of warmth filled my heart. I looked at him sincerely and said, “Thank you.”
Thank you for making me feel at home in this unfamiliar place.
From then on, Evan stayed by my side. He took me to many places. patiently pointing out directi.
Thank you for making me feel alone in una placc.
From then on, Evan stayed by my side. He took me to many places, patiently pointing out directions and
explaining things.
Worried I might get lost, he even personally drew a map for me, marking everything clearly, including who to contact in case of trouble.
Whenever he had free time, he would travel from home to Paris to bring me the warmth of familiarity.
Six months later, during his third confession, I finally said yes.
At the same time, Yves sent me a congratulatory message, along with a comment.
[Good thing you went abroad. You wouldn’t believe the state Jason is in now. He didn’t get back with Shairine, but instead, he found someone who looks just like you. That guy is completely nuts.]
I didn’t respond to that.
We were all adults. Everyone must take responsibility for their actions.
As for me, I would keep moving forward, never looking back.
