Chapter 10
Reina dialed Xavier’s number again, only to find that it was no longer in service.
Was he so angry this time that he had blocked her?
The memory of his frantic voice echoed in her mind. “Reina, you need to come to the hospital. Someone-”
Sensing something was wrong, Reina rushed to the hospital. When she arrived, she was told that Xavier had signed the discharge papers himself and left. A heavy weight settled in her chest.
She quickly walked into the security office. “Get me all of the surveillance footage now. Find out where Xavier went!”
Leon and his team searched for four hours but came up empty–handed.
Frustrated, Reina gripped her phone tightly and snapped, “There’s no way a patient just disappeared like that. Keep looking!”
Her friends soon arrived.
“Reina, I think Xavier’s call for help was probably just an act. He probably just wanted you to worry about him. If you ignore him, he’ll show up on his
own.”
“Xavier learned kickboxing. Who could abduct him? You’re overthinking it.
“Reina, he loves you so much. He won’t stay mad at you for long. I bet he’ll be here in less than half an hour with breakfast for
you.”
Reina looked at the door to the ward with a hopeful expression. “You’re right. He’ll come back. Even if he’s mad at me, he won’t let me go hungry.” She waited until noon, but still, there was no sign of Xavier,
Leon approached her. “Ms. Yarrow, Mr. Fenton said that he’s experiencing stomach pain. Do you want to check on him?”
Reina was staring at her phone and didn’t seem to hear him. Leon had to repeat himself several times before she finally snapped back to reality.
She grabbed his shirt collar and asked urgently, “Have you found Xavier? Where is he?”
“No.” Leon repeated the same information. “Do you want to check on Mr. Fenton?”
Reina gathered herself and replied, “Let’s go.”
After she finished lunch with Hugo, she walked out of his ward.
As she called Xavier’s friends, the smile on her face faded. All of them claimed they hadn’t seen him and didn’t know where he was. Sweat beaded on her forehead as panic set in.
She thought for a moment, then said, “Leon, tell all my enemies that I’ll pay 100 million dollars to get my husband back. Have anyone who knows anything call me immediately.”
Soon, Leon hurried back in with a serious expression. “Ms. Yarrow, I’ve asked everyone, and they all say they haven’t seen Mr. Caldwell.”
“My enemies didn’t abduct him?” Reina threw her phone down in frustration. “Then where the hell is he?”
One of her friends fumed, saying, “He’s surely hiding somewhere.”
“Reina, you spoil him too much. Hugo nearly had his spleen ruptured because of Xavier, and now he’s pulling this runaway act? Who’s he trying to play the victim for? He’s being too arrogant!”
“Reina, when Xavier comes back, you need to lay down the rules. Otherwise, who knows what kind of tness he’ll cause next time?”
Reina’s mind flashed to the times Hugo had clutched his stomach in pain. Her expression turned cold. “You’re right. I’ve been too lenient with Xavier. He’s forgotten what boundaries are. Leon, stop the search. I’m going to see how long he can last before he finally comes home.”
