Chapter 17
Xavier’s heart sank. He turned to leave, but Reina hugged him tightly from behind.
Her burning tears fell in large droplets, landing on his clothes. Her voice trembled with joy. “Xavier, you’re finally back! I’ve missed you so much these four years that I thought I was going crazy!”
Xavier tried to push her away with all his strength, but before he could, she overwhelmed him with passionate kisses.
Frustrated, he shoved her back and snapped, “You have no right to do this. Let go of me!”
The next second, Reina threw herself back into his arms. With trembling hands, she cupped his face and studied his face closely as if she were trying to carve his image into her heart. As she stared at him, her lips quivered. She couldn’t even speak a full sentence.
Suddenly, she slapped herself across the face.
Xavier froze, confused, and watched as Reina’s face broke into a bright smile.
Her voice was full of excitement, like she had just won the lottery. “That slap really hurt. I’m not dreaming. Xavier is finally back. He’s back.”
She repeated those words under her breath. Her eyes brimmed with tears. “You’ve lost so much weight, and your chin is so sharp now. You must’ve suffered a lot in the past four years, right?
“I’m so sorry, Xavier. I hurt you so much back then, and I deeply regret it. Please, give me another chance.”
She pulled a divorce certificate from her pocket. Her eyes were red–rimmed as she spoke. “After you left, I divorced Hugo. From now on, you’re the only son–in–law of the Yarrow family-”
“Your marriage and divorce have nothing to do with me. I’m doing just fine,” Xavier interrupted her with a frown. “The Xavier who loved you is long gone. The person standing here now is Neo Caldwell. Let go of me. I need to go home!”
As soon as he said that, Reina clung to his legs. “I know you’re still mad at me. I’ll make it up to you. I will never let you cry again.”
Xavier struggled fiercely, but she wouldn’t let go.
Just then, Kieran rushed over with a group of people. “Ms. Yarrow, please let go of Mr. Caldwell. Don’t restrict his freedom.”
“Hmph! As long as I’m here, none of you will take him away and lock him up again!” Reina’s face darkened with anger. “Clear the way!” she ordered her bodyguards.
Two groups clashed. In the end, Kieran managed to get Xavier into the car.
Reina, standing apart from the crowd, watched him with tears in her eyes. “Wait for me, Xavier. I’ll find a way to make Sarah release you!”
Xavier rolled down the car window and said calmly, “Sarah didn’t lock me up. I’m with her by choice.”
“What?”
Reina’s eyes went wide in shock. Her face contorted with disbelief as she forced the words out. “You… You and her…”
“Yes, it’s exactly as you think,” Xavier said. “I’m the boyfriend she plans to marry, your future stepfather. Let’s just go our separate ways. Don’t bother me again.”
“No, this can’t be true! I don’t believe it!” Reina screamed, her face flushed with rage. Clutching her chest, she collapsed to the ground.
Xavier didn’t even glance at her. He rolled up the window and ordered, “Drive!”
He had stopped loving Reina long ago. Whether she was in pain or happy, it no longer stirred any emotion in him
The news of Xavier dating Sarah infuriated Reina so much that she had a heart attack and was rushed to the intensive care unit.
Xavier didn’t visit her.
The next day, as he lay down to rest, the window of his bedroom suddenly opened. A frail figure jumped in.
Reina threw herself into his arms and cried uncontrollably. “Xavier, I know you’re still angry. That’s why you’re using Sarah to provoke me, right? I understand. I don’t blame you. Now, come home with me.”
