Chapter 18
“I’m not going back with you,” Xavier said coldly. “I’ve been divorced from you for a long time. I don’t want to see you. Get out now!”
“That divorce agreement you tricked me into signing doesn’t count!”
Reina clung tightly to his waist and said frantically, “Xavier, I never thought about divorcing you. I planned to get through the busy period at work, then adopt a child with you and live a happy life together! I promised you I’d take care of you forever.”
“You don’t need to explain anymore.” Xavier pushed her away with an indifferent expression. “Reina, I have someone who loves me now, and I’m happy. Please, stop bothering me.”
Reina ignored his words. “Xavier, I bought back all the gifts you sold. I even replanted ten acres of peach trees for you. Don’t you want to come home and see them?”
She lifted her hand to show him the wedding ring. “I found the ring you threw away too. Let’s start over, okay? Let’s register our marriage at 9:00 am tomorrow. Then we can go on vacation-”
“No!” Xavier snapped, shaking her off. His voice was frigid. “Reina, I decided four years ago that I didn’t want you anymore. Do you hear me? I’m Sarah’s boyfriend, your future stepfather. Stop being so stubborn!”
The words hit Reina like a slap. Her frail body trembled violently, and her eyes instantly reddened.
She quickly composed herself and said, “It’s all my fault. I never understood my feelings for you before. I didn’t realize how much I cared. It’s okay. Even if you don’t want me, I want you. I’m willing to spend my whole life atoning for my mistakes.”
Just then, Sarah walked in, her face dark with anger. “Reina, why aren’t you in the hospital? Why are you here harassing my boyfriend? Let him go, and
get out!”
“He’s my husband! When did he become your boyfriend?” Reina glared at Sarah. “If you hadn’t had your men force Xavier to go overseas four years ago, we wouldn’t have been separated for so long.
I’ve been like a walking corpse without Xavier. Yet you kept his whereabouts from me and even tried to take him for yourself! How shameless!” Sarah frowned. “How dare you accuse me? He was serious about building a life with you, but you tricked him with a fake marriage certificate. Are you even human?
“You cheated on him! Just to avenge your lover, you made him peel so many oranges that he went into shock. Ask yourself–were you ever a good wife?” “I may not be perfect, but how are you any better?” Reina shoved Sarah. “You’re my elder, yet you stole my husband and turned him into your boyfriend! Is that what a decent person does?”
The two women clashed, pulling at each other’s hair. Reina gradually found herself losing ground and fell to the floor.
Xavier didn’t spate her a glance. He rushed to Sarah’s side and asked with concern, “Sarah, are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
“Xavier, are you seriously concerned about her when I’m right here?” Reina’s eyes widened in disbelief. She coughed violently as pain filled her eyes. I’m your woman!”
“You’re not. She is,” Xavier said firmly while looking at her. “When I say I want to marry Sarah, I’m not doing it to upset you. I’m serious.”
