Chapter 21
“I will never allow this marriage, not unless I die!” Reina’s anger flared. Gritting her teeth, she said, “You can only be my husband, Xavier. Don’t even think about marrying anyone else!”
“I don’t need your approval to marry.”
Just then, Sarah arrived, towering over Reina with an air of superiority. “Leave now. Don’t disturb us. Xavier deserves a peaceful birthday.”
With that, Sarah took Xavier’s hand and smiled warmly. “Let’s go.”
As they walked away, Xavier heard Reina’s desperate cries behind him.
It reminded him of her troubled mental health. His face tensed with concern, but Sarah immediately reassured him, saying, “Don’t worry. Reina will be fine. I’ll make sure she has something to do so she won’t keep bothering you. She just needs time. I believe she’ll eventually accept our engagement.” “I hope so,” Xavier said quietly.
He had seen how ruthless and determined Reina could be to secure a billion–dollar deal, and he feared she wouldn’t let him go so easily.
For the next few days, Xavier didn’t see Reina at all.
However, his phone constantly buzzed with hundreds of messages from her. Every single one read, “I miss you so much, Xavier!”
He ignored her messages and blocked her number, but she quickly switched to a new one and kept sending the same chilling message.
On the day of his engagement, Xavier was woken up early by stylists who dressed him in a suit and styled his hair. He was barely awake as he sat in the back of a Maybach, on his way to the hotel.
Suddenly, the car jerked violently and screeched to a halt. Xavier opened his sleepy eyes and saw his car blocked by several black SUVs.
The next second, there were violent knocks on the window, and Reina’s angry face appeared.
Xavier’s expression shifted in shock. He quickly opened the car door and ran down the road in a panic.
But before he could get far, Reina’s bodyguard caught up with him. He lifted Xavier up and threw him over his shoulder.
A cold voice echoed in his ear. “Xavier, you promised you would always be with me. Don’t even think about going back on your word! As long as I still have breath in me, I won’t allow you to be with her!”
Xavier struggled desperately, but a damp cloth was pressed over his nose, and a sharp smell instantly overwhelmed him.
His mind went blank, and he collapsed weakly onto the bodyguard’s shoulder, blacking out. The bodyguard carried the unconscious Xavier into a helicopter and placed him on a seat.
Reina leaned over to kiss Xavier. Her voice choked with emotion as she whispered, “Xavier, you’re finally back with me. I’m so happy.”
If Xavier wanted to become a father, she would make it happen. If he dreamed of teaching architectural design, she would create an online platform for him to help him achieve his goals.
She believed that with enough effort, she could erase the resentiment he had for her and make him love her again.
When Xavier woke up, he found himself in an unfamiliar bedroom.
He jumped out of bed and opened the window. Before him stretched the endless sea, with the golden sand shimmering under the sunlight.
Where was he? Had Reina locked him up?
Frustration built up inside him. He slammed the door open and stormed downstairs.
There, he saw Reina wearing an apron and carrying a dish from the kitchen. Her face was lit with a cheerful smile. “You’re awake? Come, sit down and
eat.”
Xavier lowered his gaze. His voice was laced with bitterness as he said, “Reina, today’s my engagement day. Why did you lock me up? This is wrong. Can’t we just part on good terms? I don’t love you anymore. Keeping me here won’t change anything.”
