Chapter 60
After Calvin calmed Victor and Olive down, he went to the obstetrics and gynecology department to find me.
Emma came earlier than him, having rushed from the countryside.}
She ignored the other patients and visitors in the ward, pointed at me, and scolded, “Wendy, how did you take care of your children and husband? My grandson is gone, and my son is seriously injured! Is this how you are supposed to be someone’s wife?”
Emma’s fingers almost poked my eyes.}
I wasn’t surprised by her behavior.
She and her son were the same.
Calvin was admitted to the same key university as me because of my father’s free tutoring.
Emma had been grateful to my family that she would often come to the city, bringing gifts to thank my father.
Before our marriage, Emma treated me well.
After marriage, Calvin and I started a business together and engaged in factory foreign trade. He was in charge of product research and development, and I was in charge of foreign trade sales. Our business was booming.
Probably from that time on, Emma’s attitude changed.
It was not difficult to hear from her boasting to relatives and friends that she felt that without Calvin’s high–end research and development, I was nothing.
She felt that everything was Calvin’s credit, and she always advised me to quit office and take care of my husband and children.
I was too busy with work and didn’t pay much attention to her pedantic remarks.
Anyway, she was far away, and I didn’t care.
When the company was doing better and better, she finally quieted down.
Looking back, I realize she stopped making those comments around the same time Victor was born.
Every time she sent us gifts from the countryside, she would also send us some brand new clothes and ask me to help her deal with them.
She said, “Wendy, these clothes are small sizes that our relatives‘ children don’t have time to wear. It would be a pity to throw them away. Can you help me sell them to earn some living expenses?“]
Emma had a hard life. I knew she would be reluctant to give it away, so she asked me to handle it.)
But those clothes were not worth much and I didn’t have time to handle it.§
I would give them to Olive and transfer the money to Emma, pretending it was from selling clothes.
It was clear to me now that Emma knew about Olive and her son all along.
The clothes always fit Victor perfectly.
There were too many coincidences. It could only be human design.
I was blinded by love, foolishly helping Olive and her son for two years.
Whenever I bought delicious food or
inks for my family or gifts for my client’s children, I would buy one for Victor.
I must be the most naive wife in the world, raising a son for my husband’s mistress without even realizing it.
The shame of being cheated on became too much to bear, and I couldn’t take Emma’s unwarranted accusations anymore. I slapped her hand away and retorted, “You have no right to blame me. Why don’t you ask your son why he’s neglecting our family for another woman and child?”
I didn’t reveal the truth.D
But Emma was panicked.
She looked at me suspiciously, “What do you mean by other women and children? I don’t understand.”
Calvin pushed the door open, saw his mom, and panicked, “Mom, why are you here?“}}
With Calvin here, Emma became tough again, “Son, if I hadn’t come here, I wouldn’t have known that Wendy couldn’t even protect a child. I just asked her a few questions, but she was so mean to me.”
Calvin interrupted her, “Mom, it’s not what you think. I accidentally pushed her. It has nothing to do with Wendy. You misunderstood her.” After receiving Calvin’s hint, Emma changed her tone, trying to appear innocent, “Wendy, why didn’t you explain it clearly to me?”
She couldn’t even say a word of apology and instead blamed me for not explaining.
Would she listen to my explanation?
She was coming to pick a fight with me but didn’t dare to offend me.”
She wasn’t blaming me for not saving my child. She was blaming me for not protecting her grandson Victor!}}
