He remembered something else–something I had told him once, a long time ago.
“Liam, you need to be careful when handling cases like these. Sometimes, the consequences aren’t immediate….
but they can be an atomic bomb waiting to explode.”
Thad warned him, but he had ignored it.
And because of that, he had walked straight into Evelyn’s trap.
He had been the fool who trusted his enemy, the idiot who turned his back on the woman who had loved him.
A bitter, humorless laugh escaped his lips as he whispered, “It’s all my fault.”
Liam finally jolted awake. He could not afford to waste any more time.
He drove straight to Future Hospital, approached the reception desk, his voice urgent. “I need to know where Dr.
Amelia and her son, Theodore, were buried.”
The receptionist blinked at him, confused. “I’m sorry, sir… buried?”
“Yes,” Liam snapped, his frustration bubbling to the surface. “A year ago exactly the time they passed away.
Where are they?”
The receptionist hesitated, exchanging glances with a nearby nurse. “I’m afraid I don’t understand, sir,” she said carefully. “Dr. Amelia is not recorded as deceased.”
Liam’s breath caught. “What?”
*She isn’t dead, sir,” she repeated, frowning. “There’s no record of Dr. Amelia’s death in our files.
His heart pounded violently in his chest.
Frustrated, he pulled out his phone and opened the message–the suicide photo I had sent him. He had never been able to delete it, and for the first time, he understood why.
Even when his mind had erased me, his heart had refused to let me go.
He turned the phone toward the receptionist, his voice tight. “Then explain this.”
The woman gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Nearby staff who caught a glimpse of the screen murmured in
shock
“We… we don’t know what this means, sir,” one of them stammered,
“But what relationship do you have with Dr. Amelia, sir?” another asked hesitantly.
“I…” He faltered, then suddenly remembered if he asked me to keep our marriage a secret.
His entire body went cold.
Back when we got married Liam had insisted that we keen it hidden. But then standing in the hospital where no

one even knew who I was to him, he realized he was the one who erased me from his life.
What if he had done things differently? What if he had never asked me to keep our marriage a secret? Would things have been different?
The realization hit him like a freight train. “I was the one who abandoned her first
He was so lost in thought that he barely registered the nurse speaking to him.
“Sir?” she called, her voice pulling him back. “If there’s nothing else, could you please step aside? We have a long queue of patient families waiting.”
Liam blinked, staring at her blankly for a moment before finally nodding “Oh. Right, I apologize.”
He stepped away from the desk, his legs suddenly weak, barely able to support his weight. He found a chair in
the waiting area and collapsed onto it, his entire body trembling
Dozens of people passed by him–nurses, doctors, families of patients. The hospital was as busy as ever, filled
with life.
But I was not here. I had left.
But then, through the crowd, a familiar figure passed by My professor
Liam’s eyes widened. He remembered me often speaking about her with admiration. If anyone knew where I was,
it would be her.
Without hesitation, he shot up from his seat and rushed toward her.
“Ma’am, wait a second!” he called out, his voice urgent.
The professor turned around, startled at first, but as soon as her gaze landed on Liam, recognition flickered in her eyes. Unlike the other hospital staff, she knew exactly who he was.
She also was aware of the gossip a year ago, so seeing him standing before her after an entire year, begging for Amelia’s whereabouts, a sneer curled on her lips.
“Why are you looking for her?” she asked, her voice cold. “Didn’t she tell you where she was? Did you two fight?”
Her words dripped with sarcasm, but underneath, there was clear disdain,
“Please,” he begged, his voice raw with desperation. “Tell me where Amelia is.
Liam did not even try to answer the question or defend himself. He could not.
The professor let out a sharp exhale, shaking her head. “And why should I tell you if Amelia herself did not tell you?”
Liam clenched his jaw, his desperation growing.
And then, without thinking, he did something he had never done before.
He dropped to his knees in front of her.
Staff and patients passing by gasped, whispering among themselves. The sight of Liam Carlisle–the powerful prosecutor–kneeling in front of a doctor was shocking.
But Liam did not care.
“Please, I need to know where Amelia and Theodore are.”
But the professor just left him there, without explaining anything.
To her surprise, he kept his stance until midnight when she was about to go home.
As a result, she sighed and finally said, “She’s in the branch hospital in the countryside. But even if I tell
I don’t know if Amelia wants to see you again.”
Liam’s heart clenched. He knew that.
But that answer alone was enough to make hope flicker back to life in his chest.

you
that,
Because he knew I was alive.
And that meant he had a chance–no matter how small–to make things right.
The professor did not wait for a response. With one last cold glance, she turned and walked away, leaving Liam kneeling in the middle of the hospital corridor.
He slowly rose to his feet, his legs shaking slightly
A year ago, he had let me slip away. So, he would do everything to make up with me.
“Wait for me, Amelia.”
