I was stunned, frozen in place as I watched my brother cut down the two hunters. without a hint of hesitation.
“Freya, let’s go,” a familiar voice commanded sharply. My heart skipped a beat as I looked up into the cold, silver eyes of my brother, Boone.
“Boone?” I whispered, my voice trembling. “What are you-”
“Saving you from your mess,” he
growled, his tone cutting yet not unkind.
“But—”
“I don‘ t even know what you’re doing, Freya. You know plenty of wolves are hungry for our power. Why risk this?”
“I can’t come back yet,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Our parents are waiting for you,” he replied softly, a flicker of vulnerability in

his gaze.
“I know, but I need a proper way to leave the pack. I’ll call you again. I promise I’ll stay safe.‘
Boone sighed, his shoulders tense with restrained frustration. “I won’t let you go to that man who can’t even handle a pack
without you.”
“I know,” I whispered, the ache in my chest growing unbearable. Boone had never liked Lucian, and now, I was beginning to understand why.
Suddenly, dizziness overwhelmed me, my knees buckling as the stress of everything- and the secret life growing inside me–took
its toll.
“Damn it, Freya,” Boone muttered, catching me before I hit the ground. “Let me take you to the hospital. At least let me do that.”
When I woke up, I was lying in a clinic for werewolves, the sterile scent stinging my

nose. My eyes fluttered open, and my heart sank as I saw Lucian standing beside the bed, his face etched with anger.
“Lucian…” I murmured.
“Why the hell are you so careless, Freya?” he snapped, his voice sharp and accusatory. “The doctor said someone found you passed out in the woods and brought you here! Do you have any idea how reckless that was?”
“Lucian, I-”
“No!” he barked, cutting me off. “I don‘ t have time to deal with your impulsive behavior! Are you doing this as an act of revenge because of Vlanche?”
I hesitated, the weight of my secret choking me. “I needed to figure something out,” I
muttered.
His eyes narrowed, his tone dripping with frustration. “Figure out what? How to give me another problem to clean up? Do you know how much I had to sacrifice because

of this? I missed a meeting with the Crescent Fang Pack–your pack–because of your stupidity!”
“I didn’t know,” I whispered, guilt
curling in my stomach.
“Of course you
you didn’t,
didn’t,” he spat.
“Because you never think about anyone
but yourself.”
I clenched my fists, trying to steady my voice. “I wasn’t trying to ruin anything. I just-”
“I don‘ t care,” he interrupted coldly. “What I care about is how your recklessness is making my pack weaker. Your weakness is a liability, Freya. Luna up. Do you even realize how lucky you are that I keep you around despite your inability to satisfy me? To give me an heir?”
My chest tightened, his words cutting deeper than any wound. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to ask, “Do you even care that I was attacked? That I could have

died?”
Lucian didn’t answer right away, his silence heavier than any response.
“You‘ re alive,” he said finally, his voice devoid of emotion. “That’s all that
matters. I don‘ t have time to deal with
this.”
Without another word, he turned and left, leaving me alone in the suffocating stillness of the room.

The next morning, I woke to the sensation of a touch on my hand.
“Lucian?” I whispered groggily, my heart pounding in confusion.
He stood before me, holding a necklace with a silver moon pendant. His eyes softened as he held it out.

unusually gentle. “You‘ re all I think about when I look at the moon.
“Lucian…” I murmured, my voice faltering. I wanted to believe his words, but the weight of his earlier accusations clung to me like a shadow.
Sensing my hesitation, he added, “I‘ ll be spending more time with Vlanche. She needs me to train her after the attack. She’s powerful but… lost. I’m the only one who can guide her.”
